Originality
The only way to make a good game.
Okay, I'm here to talk about ORIGINALITY... one of the many things people don't take into consideration when creating a game.
ANYWAYS... what is originality? To me it is creating something that has never been created before... or even maybe using something else that has been used very little.
Basically, no game is fun, unless it's original. Originality is sort of like a new toy. A new toy is something you want to play with above all you're other toys, as you have not experienced it before. Old ideas are like old toys... you've already experienced them, and gotten all the fun out of them possible.
NOW, if I were to make a game, a platformer, with original ideas it would be fun, right? Sure it would. But, this "New Toy" can easily become an "old toy" if I release sequals with the exact same engine and graphics. An example in the real video game world is Mario Party and Mario Party 2. Mario Party was a very creative and new idea when the game came out... a board game solely on a video game with tons of mini-games mixed in... cool, right? Now... then Mario Party 2 came along... based on a video game board game with mini-games mixed in. When playing Mario Party 2, it felt as if you had simply gotten some codes in Mario Party and unlocked new levels. The gameplay was essentially exactly the same, except for a few new mini-games? This left Mario Party 2 being a terrible game... but why?! It had the same engine as Mario Party... what happened? Obviously if Mario Party 2 had been released first, it would of been as much of a hit as Mario Party. Then if Mario Party was released soon after, it would of sucked.
BASICALLY you CAN get to much of a good thing... in fact you can get to much of almost anything.
So, what am I trying to say? If it isn't obvious GIVE YOUR GAMES SOME ORIGINALITY! Not when it just comes to graphics and stuff... the gameplay originality matters the most! Think of an idea... it can start with "It would be cool if..."(I could do this in a video game.) Then do it! It's worth a try far more than a sequal game or an RPG with the Final Fantasy battle engine!
Well, remember this.
