No4, or Captain Monro's Company

Captain Charles Monro and his two lieutenants and adjutant were gazetted on 17th September, 1803, although the company had been "accepted" on 20th June, and drilling had begun on the 1st August. The first members of the company, as returned in the quarterly sheet, June-December, 1803, were:-

Interesting Fact

The inspections in the early days of volunteering were more numerous than they were in the later days. In 1804, for example, the inspection lasted for two days, on the 27th April at Stonehaven, and at Laurencekirk on the 28th. Colonel Gordon Cumming was the inspecting officer, and Lieutenant-Colonel Burnett was in command. The parade state and pay-list of all except officers were:-

5 drummers at 1s
476 privates at 1s
