Portlethen Churchyard

This present church dates from 1834 on a commanding hilltop position. In 1856 it became the parish church of the new quoad sacra parish, formed out of this end of the Banchory-Devenick parish.

The grounds are in very good condition and all stones are easily seen. There are two extensions to the original graveyard, which are easily distinguished. A good view of the town of Portlethen, the extensive industrial area and railway can be seen from this high vantage point. A pity that the site is now dominated by the adjacent senior citizen home - but that's progress.

The churchyard is easily accessible with a large car park just outside the grounds.

Worth a visit, but remember its usually very cold up there, even in summer!
