My Customs and Customs I like.First, let's answer a few questions first timers might have.... What are customs? In this case it is where a person like myself take either a perfectly good G3 pony (remember, G3's are the ones still being sold in stores!) or a poor overly loved G1 (some people even do G2 *shiver*) that has enough problems that it's not quite suitable in collector herds anymore wash it, remove it's cutie mark, sometimes remove their tails and manes, sometimes dye or paint them a totally new color (although some of us like to find a pony that's the color we want and work from there) and create a totally new pony! Usually these new ponies are unique and have not been seen anywhere else. That's usually 100% of the case. Usually. Why take a perfectly good pony and change it? Why not? Why take a perfectly good piece of paper and draw on it? Or even write on it? There are just some things that you can't really explain. Hasbro would never do a movie character collection. Or create good looking dragons. Face it, My Little Ponies are toys. Much loved toys and there is no better or higher compliment then imitation. How long does it take to create a custom? That depends on the custom and how it's created. Just prepping the pony can take a day. There are many ways to create a custom pony as there are many ways to create a building. No two artists do it exactly the same. Some re-hair the pony in a way that can take two days, some can do it in a single day and then others can take three or more days. The more complex the custom the longer it will take...or should take if you want to end up with a good quality custom that you can be proud of. I personally like to take as much time as I can with a custom. I'm also a stickler about details and I also have a life outside of customs and the Internets. What is a commission? Whether you see this on any of my ponies or someone else's it just means that someone contacted the artist and asked for a particular looking pony and the artist complied with the request. In other words, someone had an idea for a custom pony but lacking the skills/money/time/ect they called upon someone else to create the pony for them and paid to have this done. Basically the pony was paid for before it was even created Like paying contractors to build your house. I want to become a customizer, can I ask you questions about your methods? Absolutely. I know some artists can get extremely offended when up in comers ask questions, but I'm not one of those people. Feel free to ask me any question you might have and I'll answer it to the best of my ability. Ponies that are for sale have click-able pictures which will take you to a page that will tell you more about the pony and who the artist/seller is. This is also where you will find out how to purchase the pony and you MUST talk with the artist not me about buying that particular pony. Also note that I may not be up-to-date on my information so it is VERY important that you read the information directly from the artist for the latest on that pony. So, let's stop talking about them and start enjoying them shall we?

Other People's Customs
I have to begin with the person whose custom got me back into My Little Pony in general and sparked the desire to do my very own customs. Lewis currently resides in the United Kingdom and does sell his ponies. If a pony is for sale, I tell you, keep in mind the prices are in pounds not USD! No further adieu, I present to you some of Dragon-Shadow's lovely work! Princess Leia is used as my avatar at both places mentioned above and is just so wonderfully done! She really has that You are my only hope. look! Slave Leia is a fan favorite, specially when you're a single guy who hasn't had a date in ages because you're "stuck" in your room watching all six movies over and over again as well as collecting every figure/action toy you can get your hands on through eBay. We all know just how much time eBay consumes! Nah, I really love this pony and think it goes well with the collection...besides, you can't just not include this one! Luke Skywalker pre-Empire Strikes Back. Well you can't have one twin without the other! The details on these ponies are great and really tie it in. Han Solo. It's just not Star Wars if you don't have some scruffy looking nerf-herder running about! Darth Vader I would have been disappointed if she didn't at least have this one. Yeah Leia, Luke and Han are all great, but it's not the series without this one, you know?? Stormtrooper is just adorable. Stormtroopers aren't suppose to be adorable! This one just is. Jack Sparrow. That's right, she does more than just Star Wars! Seriously you should go back up and check out her stuff. I do believe she does sell some of her pieces, you just got to catch them before other's do! Purple Dragon Seriously my favorite custom. I collect dragons (big and small!) and about *died* when I saw this beauty. She's a little busy right about now, but has promised to think about it when she has more time. Hopefully by that time I'll have my dragon done so I'll have two of them to keep each other company. Sugar Blue is a pretty little show-gal type pony. Accessories make the outfit you know... Jade Fizz is a pretty little gal with some great locks! Golden Topaz is a flutter pony redone and in my humble opinion looks a lot better than the originals! Dream is a merpony. I usually don't like merponies, but this one is pretty well done. She is up for sale for $70 (USD) so go take a look! Mrs. Lovett Straight from Barber Street and bearing some lovely meat pies. Question is, are they the worst pies in London or her new recipe? Probably best not to know! Sweeney Todd Probably saw this one coming. I adore the detail she put into both these ponies. The musical is great and the urge to see these two ponies "sing" A Little Priest is just too tempting. |
