Lectio Divina +Bible study...
Topic: quotations (Scripture)

I sent out the following text as an e-mail a little while ago:

-for the first Sunday of this Lenten season, Father Ron sent [the computer-savvy] home with this task as "homework" [at the 11:30AM Mass]:

that we should search for this term on Google, "Lectio Divina"
which is Latin and is pronounced, "Lexio Divina"

I did as he said yesterday and found a few good sites- to help you out with this assignment here are
the URLs to said pages:

[from CenteringPrayer.com]
-this was one of the first on the list, I read through it and while it does seem a bit long- this is pretty comprehensive since it explains the history of the practice as well as how modern practices and the two forms of Lectio are different (scholastic vs. monastic)

[Valyermo.com: the art of Lectio Divina]
-after reading through the first article above, this page provided a great follow-up since it goes on to mention The Process of Lectio Divina as well as "Lectio Divina on Life" (the latter is quite good, after seeing this I finally realized that that is something that I have unsuccessfully been trying to do almost my whole conscious life... and inspires me to do so in the future.)

[from PrayerFoundation.org]
-this page takes the same article from the above site, but presents it in a paraphrased/shortened manner; also, the format of the text is slightly different so it may make for an easier, quicker read than the URL above it -the page links to other useful places that cover other ways of praying as well.

and finally, for the last link I'll provide the Wikipedia page- mostly, it just talks of common formulae of how Lectio Divina can be prayed, but the first and second URLs are the best I've found concerning the history and different forms of this graceful way of meditation~

[Lectio Divina as described on Wikipedia]
(and I've yet to try the external links that this page has, but I'm rather surprised that I didn't see some of the others I saw when I did my Google search earlier...)

-never mind that point I made earlier, the second of my URLs is listed there below.

-it would appear that my "Bible Studies" were not exactly true Bible studies in the real sense of the word, but something more akin to Lectio Divina instead... I just learned about Divine Reading when the Pastor of my church brought it up during the Mass for the first Sunday of Lent

I am glad to know that this exists since I have been trying to do it/looking for this my whole life without knowing that it is a known area of study for the Scriptures and for one's life

-I have so much to learn.

...

Anyway, these verses stood out today:

Proverbs 11:25-31, 12:15-6

Whoever diligently seeks good seeks favor, but evil comes to the one who searches for it.

Those who trust in their riches will wither, but the righteous will flourish like green leaves.

Those who trouble their house holds will inherit wind, and the fool will be servant to the wise.

The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life, but violence takes lives away.

If the righteous are repaid on earth, how much more the wicked and the sinner!

...

Fools think their own way is right, but the wise listen to advice.

Fools show their anger at once, but the prudent ignore an insult.
