Today, my little town* has started it's Flapjack Festival for the season and... I'm missing it ;_; still, though I don't want to miss out I feel somehow that this is fine and that somehow I'll get there before the end of the festival (runs from Nov. 5-7 this year)

personally, I am also an optical mouse user and I could do something like this with the same tool, but I am beginning to feel the limitations of the mouse and am now starting to wish I had a tablet- actually, a Tablet PC would be much more preferrable in my eyes.
