Welcome to the Birthplace of America! Philadelphia's Independece NHP was created to tell the story of America's journey from rebellion to republic.
Congress Hall
Originally built to house the Philadelphia County courts, this building served as the Capitol from 1790 to 1800. The House met downstairs and the Senate met upstairs. Washington's second inauguration took place here in 1793, as well as John Adams's in 1797. Adams became the first leader to recieve power in a peaceful transfer. Ever.
