While vacationing on Yap, you won't find a shortage of fun activities that can give you a glimpse into the everyday life of the island. Snorkeling and diving are great ways to enjoy the myriad of marine life surrounding the island. Check with one of the hotels to plan a kayaking trip to go meandering the pathways among mangrove trees. And for a more personal look into the island people's daily and cultural life, make arrangments to see one of the many village dances performed throughout the year. With advance notice and for a fee, many villages will perform dances and give give village tours for tourist groups and special events. If you want a break from bustling group activities, you can rent a car and tour the island either by yourself or better with a local tour guide.To sight see all over the island, however, requires permission from each village. People own their own land and are very much protective of their village boundaries, but with permission granted, you can get a closer & more realistic look into the daily life of the Yapese people.
