The cast
Rowan
Atkinson
Johnny English stars Rowan Atkinson (Bean) as an accident-prone MI-7 agent
on a mission to rescue Britain’s crown jewels and save the country
and the monarchy from a Machiavellian French business magnate. John Malkovich
(Ripley’s Game) portrays the scheming Sauvage and Ben Miller (The
Parole Officer) is Johnny’s sidekick Bough. Double-platinum recording
artist Natalie Imbruglia makes her feature film debut as special agent
Lorna Campbell, the object of English’s desires.
During its six year run, Mr. Bean became the most popular show in the
U.K. and has since been shown in 89 countries where it has gained a cult
following comparable to Monty Python and Fawlty Towers. Atkinson himself
attributes his character's popularity to the fact that the socially awkward,
middle-aged Bean's mundane adventures, largely due to his clumsy inability
to cope with even the smallest of life's foibles, mirror the feelings
and experiences of people the world over.
John
Malkovich
One of the leading actors of his generation and an important figure in
world cinema, John Malkovich has made the term "icy calm" his
trademark. After winning acclaim for his characterization of the scheming
Vicomte de Valmont in Dangerous Liaisons, he became associated with a
series of roles that, to put it plainly, essentially required him to be
an evil bastard.
The product of a large, highly intellectual family, Malkovich was born
December 9, 1953, in Christopher, Illinois. Initially a portly youth,
he underwent a self-imposed physical transformation, emerging as a star
high school athlete.
Natalie
Imbruglia
She has identity issues. A former star of the Australian soap opera Neighbours
and an overnight success in America with her 1998 radio hit "Torn,"
the singer-songwriter has returned with a second album that is thoroughly
catchy, utterly hummable and impossible to fault except for its lack of
any stamp of authorship. Who is this Natalie Imbruglia, really? On the
winsome "Wrong Impression," she and her band pull off an uncanny
impersonation of the light teatime Anglo-pop of the Sundays, but it may
be that Imbruglia just happens to sound a lot like that band's singer,
Harriet Wheeler.
Ben
Miller
British comedian Ben Miller is best know as one half of the stand-up double
act Armstrong & Miller. A veteran of Channel 4 television, Miller
has made several film appearances, including "The Parole Officer",
"Birthday Girl", and "There's Only One Jimmy Grimble".
His latest role is playing Bough alongside Rowan Atkinson's bumbling spy,
Johnny English.
