The dead woman’s mother, Roleen Alexander

A 23-year-old woman was hacked to death and her 47-year-old mother hospitalised with severe injuries after they were both attacked by a cutlass wielding male relative at D’Edward Village, West Coast Berbice, late yesterday afternoon.

Twenty-three-year-old Trevlyn Nicholson died on the roadside outside home, while her mother, Roleen Alexander, was last night a patient in the Georgetown Public Hospital in a critical condition.

The Police were yesterday looking for the husband of the dead woman to assist them with their investigations into the savage attacks.

Reports said that Trevlyn Nicholson, recently married and a mother of one, had some time earlier been involved in a heated argument with a male relative.

The mother, who was visiting the home at the time, intervened and was attempting to make peace when the male seized a pitchfork in the house and attacked her inflicting injuries to her head and neck.

The 47-year-old woman fled into a nearby yard and the male then picked up a cutlass and turned on her daughter.

He dealt her several chops on her back and neck and followed her and continued chopping her about the body as she ran screaming out of the house and fell to the ground.

The man dealt the prostrate woman several more chops about the body before running away.

Police investigating the murder said that he was up to late last night still at large.
