Week 26, Day 152
Saying goodbye is never easy. But if only all farewells were as fun
as this one. Nayra, one of the hardworking staff members at Nando's
Leeds, decided to return to Tenerife to finish her degree. I managed
to convince her that there would be a good turn out for a night of drinks
despite most of the staff being on holidays. Trying not to be too cocky
here but I believe fun was had by all.
A small group of us - Nayra, boyfriend (and also from Nando's) Blessing,
Beto, Jackie, Shawn and I - started off at the restaurant and then made
our way to North Bar, closely followed by Angel Inn, back to the restaurant
and then ended up in Baja (pronounced ba-ha). For those that have never
been there let me describe it for you - it's a cheesy club decorated
in beach style (even the bar waitresses were in bikinis and sarongs!)
that is so tacky it's good, in small doses of course. Perhaps it was
the music - a selection of current pop/r&b tunes, mixed with some
classic oldies - or maybe it was the company, but I really enjoyed it.
Highlights included: getting down to the likes of JT, Jackson 5, Vanilla
Ice and Queen; Jess and Rahkee's approach at rejecting drunken young
lads who gained the courage to ask them to dance (i.e., either prompltly
sticking their finger up at them or rudely shouting 'f*$k off!'); Cockney
Phil (not to be confused with Creation Phil, who is also training to
be Assistant Manager with Les & I) pulling some moves on a good
looking chick passing by; Nayra and I attempting (but failing somewhat)
to do the Beyonce 'lick' dance move as per her 'Crazy In Love' video
clip; Jackie being stalked by a drunken teenage boy; and finally, Lee
and Blessing showing everyone how it's done on the dancefloor.
I think the pictures say it all.
Nayra & Beto twirl to Portuguese music at Nando's.
Up-close & personal with me & Beto.
And then a proper one for the parents.
Da boys - Shawn, Cockney Phil, Beto & Blessing.
The lovely couple - Nayra & Blessing.
