I’m using this as a resource for whether Southerners were disenfranchised during Reconstruction.

  Books I’ve Recently Read
Archer, Christon I … et al. World History of Warfare.

Amazon.com page

Interesting, but says that American troops were brought home from Vietnam in 1971 instead of January, 1973.

  Matsuoka, Takashi. Cloud of Sparrows.

Amazon.com page

A novel of Japan in 1861, when the first effects of opening Japan to the world were becoming apparent. It also incorporates a Western, but has errors in the firearms of the period. For example, .44 caliber Civil War revolvers didn’t use cartridges.

Chatters, James C. Ancient Encounters: Kennewick Man and the First Americans

Amazon.com page

An excellent account of the discovery and study of Kennewick Man, a 9,000 year old skeleton of a man who wasn’t a Native American. It has a good discussion of modern theories of the migration of ancient humans to the New World.
Bobbit, Philip. The Shield of Achilles: War, Peace, and the Course of History

Amazon.com page

Interesting, but slow going. I didn’t finish it.
Audoin-Rouzeau, Stephane and Becker, Annette. 14-18: Understanding the Great War

Amazon.com page

I disagree with the authors’ assertion that the brutality of World War I changed the nature of European society, but it has some interesting facts and ideas.
Holzer, Mark Henry, and Holzer, . “Aid and Comfort: Jane Fonda in North Vietnam.

Amazon.com page

Outstanding resource for the laws on treason. It makes a good case for the indictment of Fonda for treason.
Alexander, Bevin. How Wars Are Won: The 13 Rules of War - From Ancient Greece to the War on Terror.

Amazon.com page

Analyzes Western warfare and battles in terms of Sun Tsu.
Milton, Giles. Samurai William: The Englishman Who Opened Japan.

Amazon.com page

The story of William Adams, whom James Clavell fictionalized in Shogun.
Koba the Dread by Martin Amis

Amazon.com page

An outstanding summarization of Stalin’s bloody reign and denunciation of those who denied the truth about Stalin’s crimes.
