Club Valencia lost for the first time in the open play of 90 minutes to Victory Sports Club in the 51st National Soccer Tournament's only match. This was the second final between Valencia and Victory this year. Valencia held to a 1-1 draw against Victory in the Cup Winner's Cup Final. Valencia won the next four matches against Victory by 4-1, 3-2, 2-1 and 2-1 respectively. Victory Sports Club lost in four matches in the year 2001 so far, all to Club Valencia. Fifa Referee Saleem took some very poor decisions in this clash, far below his performance. In the first half there were two-three deliberate fouls on Valencia players but Saleem didn't seem to have an eye on those occasions.

In the second half Number 11 of Victory, Marey, deliberately pushed Valencia's Nikolai Donav in front of Saleem, but ignored. Valencia's man marker Mohamed Nazim (Fanthoshi), was red carded as a result of Marey's wonderful cheating. In that incident, Fanthoshi and Marey came at the same time to clear a ball. Fanthoshi headed it, simultaneously Marey fell and promptly tried his traditional art in front of Saleem, who then showed a red card to a guiltless Fanthoshi. Before that foul Marey had a harsh foul on Fanthoshi in front of Saleem, but continued the play. When considering Ali-Umar's red card, Katey, man marker of Ali-Umar, hit deliberately on Ali-Umar but Saleem didn't see the incident. Seconds later, Ali-Umar took the revenge by smacking Katey's legs and this time Saleem managed to see the foul, who didn't in the previous action, immediately took the red card out of his pocket and sent Ali-Umar out of the field, his first in his career. Minutes later, Marey again acted as if he was hit by a wrestler, and Saleem showed a yellow card to a guiltless Ali-Rasheed (Silachi Ayya). Actually Marey was trying to delay the match as possible.

Two minutes before Valencia's goal, Adeel Jaleel, one of Valencia's owners, tried to bring the team out of the field due to the above mentioned preposterous rulings. After the match Valencia didn't come for the prize giving ceremony for the manager Ahmed Saleem's words. Valencia didn't come to collect its first ever Dhivehi League shield and the medals for the Runner-up club of the National Tournament. As a result FA put one year bans for Valencia's owner and manager, Adeel and Saleem respectively and fined the club with MRF 10,000. Versatile Ali-Umar too, was suspended for the next three matches, which will be the first two matches of the President of Maldives Invitation Soccer (POMIS) Cup and the Semi-Final, if Valencia advances.
