February, the world cup, some rain,
and something for everyone I hope… The Web Sites: 1. Anyone remember The Firm? Well, said band had a bass player with HUGE hair. He also played “huge”, jamming with Whitesnake for a while, as well as Blue Murder. Tony Franklin < http://www.tonyfranklin.com/ > is one of those cool British gentlemen who exudes confidence, plays with style and kicks ass all while playing fretless (Run! They’re everywhere!!!). Cool site with some great pics, including the baddest rig you’ve ever seen (Peavey BTW). Cool! 2. He’s probably the coolest cat playing bass right now. He’s also got a resume the length of my arm – and yours. New York’s finest, Will Lee < http://www.willlee.com/ > has a wacky site chock full of cool things for the discerning bassist, and there’s also something for Aggi…He’s recently played with Sir Paul Mac, he’s played the Late Nite circuit for many years, and he sings. Man, some people have all the fun. The Technical Corner 1. A lot of people have slated Trace Elliot < http://www.trace-elliot.com/ > over the past couple of years for many reasons, but the fact that this company has a player’s roster, which reads like a who’s who of the bass playing world still says something. Very cool pre-amps; in fact, IMHO of the best out there (that I’ve used anyway), and some seriously cool cabs make this one of the rigs that you can always depend on. 2. Fodera basses: - < http://www.fodera.com/ > You’ve seen Victor Wooten play the heck out of his four string. You’ve heard Anthony Jackson play a 6-string. Now check out the site. These are very yummy basses, made by a hugely respected luthier in New York, Vinnie Fodera. These guys started out working for Ken Smith and Ned Steinberger, and now run one of the nicest custom shops out there. Drool quietly! And that’s that for me.
