Born in Johannesburg in June of ‘78, Danie Burger first became interested in being a musician in the early 1990s, after being exposed to bands like Black Sabbath, Guns N’ Roses, Ozzy Osbourne, Mötley Crüe, and Judas Priest. By the end of 1993 he managed to get hold of a Ibanez bass and systematically started to develop his bass style into what would later become a idiosyncratic blend of Old School Metal, 80s and 90s L.A Rock, Death and Thrash Metal, Gothic, and Industrial.

During 1994, Danie played bass in a cover band, doing stuff like the Beatles, the Eagles, Jimi Hendrix, and Guns N’ Roses. After almost joining a number of bands, Danie soon after took up the roles of bassist, vocalist, main lyricist, and co-songwriter in what would later become Bedlam. Between 1995 and 1998, Bedlam played a wide variety of gigs. Some highlights were:

• Reaching the Semi-finals of the 1996 Wings Battle of the Bands at their first club gig
• Playing with Agro on 18 October 1996. This turned out to be their last gig with their Rhythm Guitarist Mountain (R.I.P brother), who passed away in a car accident early the following morning
• Organising an Animal Lib Charity gig early 1997 which filled Wings to its full capacity and then some. On stage were Bedlam, Mesadoth, Deviate, and Gutted Remains
• Opening for Metalmorphosis and Agro at a gig called “Judgment Night”, July 1997. This gig filled Club Icon (Marshall Street, Jhb) to capacity
• Playing with Sacrifist at Wings, early Feb 1998. This was their first gig with Cliff of Agro on vox.
• Playing with Crystal Dawn on their first gig at Hunters, Randburg.

Bedlam split up a few months later, primarily due to the members’ study obligations. This has also lead Danie to turn down a number of offers and requests from other bands, including Gutted Remains in 2000. Currently, Danie is finishing his PhD in Industrial Psychology and working at The Liberty Group. He is thinking about either starting or joining a band soon, preferably something between power metal, melodic death metal, and thrash metal, with a touch of old school wedged in between. So, if you are looking for a vocalist and/or bass guitarist, give him a call.
