Graeme was born in England and emigrated to South Africa with his family at age 11. He started playing bass at age 18 and was actively involved in the Durban music scene in
the late 70’s and early 80’s. In 1981 he moved back to London and then on to the U.S.A. where he studied at Berklee College of Music in Boston, North Texas State University and the L.A. Recording Workshop where he received honors for the producers course. Currently Graeme has just completed his B.Mus. (Hons) degree at The University of Cape Town. He is now pursuing a Masters degree. Graeme has played bass with many international artists including: THE MAMAS AND THE PAPAS RICK WAKEMAN (YES) STEVE MORSE (DEEP PURPLE) LISA HARTMAN THE GLEN MILLER BIG BAND TRINI LOPEZ THE COLLECTION BIG BAND VALENTINE DALLAS JAZZ ORCHESTRA IRENE CARA MICHAEL BRECKER MUSIC OF THE NIGHT 1 & 2 ROB McCONNEL’S BOSS BRASS “CATS” WORLD TOUR Since returning to South Africa in 1988, Graeme has performed in every area of the local music scene from theater productions of the Buddy Holly Story, Hair, 5 Guys Named Moe, A Touch of Webber A Taste of Rice, Grease, Joseph, Sinatra, Pantomimes and Cabaret; through to local bands Syndicate, Outland and Razor and with the Johannesburg pops, Gary Bosman Big Band, Laurika Rauch, Johannes Kerkorrel, Gloria Bosman, Judith Sepuma, Sibongile Khumalo, Claire Johnson and Ed Jordan. Throughout his career, Graeme has had extensive experience in the recording studio, locally and internationally, having played on albums, radio T.V. and commercials. He has composed and arranged original songs for artists and bands and is building a library of material through his publishing company. Graeme is currently lecturing at Allenby Campus School of Contemporary Music and has also taught music at Pretoria Technicon, Dallas Arts Magnate High School and privately. Utilizing all his experience and talent, Graeme has concentrated his skills on becoming a producer, having produced: - “Turning Point” by local guitar virtuoso Mauritz Lotz, which won the 1996 FNB/SAMA Music Award for Best Instrumental Album. - Both of Lionel Bastos’ albums, one of which “Simple”, won the 1999 FNB/SAMA Music Award for Best Adult Contemporary Album. - A contemporary country album by Bernie Williams which included two of Graeme’s original songs. - He also produced and engineered the single “I Can’t Get Enough” for S.A. rock band, Mean Mr Mustard. - The Allenby Campus Compilation CD. - Terence Reis’ 1st CD “Bilene” – which received a five star review and was labeled a “Masterpiece”. |
