Bio
I began playing acoustic guitar at
age 15 with a friend just as many typical teenagers did in the late 60’s.
About a year later another friend donated a set of bass strings, a little
bit of re-engineering took place and an acoustic bass was born. Subsequently
a cheap pick-up was fitted and I was on the road to stardom.
After acquiring better equipment, I gigged around Port Elizabeth for the
next few years culminating in a successful campaign with a band called SAM
at the 1974 On the Go Show in PE. Later that year I joined up with a few ex
members of the Pretoria-based band Web and embarked on a professional
career.
We worked the club and cabaret circuit around Southern Africa for the next 4
years under various band names. After deciding to quit the professional
scene due to the inherent financial and other instability, I focused my
musical efforts on gigging with semi-pro bands until the mid-eighties but at
the same time building a career in the business world. I have played
sporadically since then.
I play 4 and 5 string electric bass and am most comfortable with a funk/rock
style of playing. I am self-taught as a musician but am now focusing on
improving myself in the areas of chord theory, harmonies and reading music.
