Clifford Signs & Shels first for Blues |

Blues' boss Jimmy McGeough has made his second dip into the transfer market by signing Mark Clifford from Cobh Ramblers. Clifford joins David Mulcahy who signed from Kilkenny last week. Clifford, a central midfielder, is a Cork native and featured heavily in Rambler's push towards promotion last season which eventually ended in playoff semi-final defeat to Drogheda United. Blues fans have been worried by the lack of transfernews in recent weeks but boss Jimmy McGeough told soccercentral.ie “We’ve brought in David Mulcahy from Kilkenny City and Mark Clifford from Cobh Ramblers but I am sure there will be plenty of players made available in the coming week’s closer to the season start.”
------- The question that has been on the lips of Blues fans since promotion was confirmed back in early January has finally been answered. The Blues' first game back in the big time will be against last season's 2nd place finishers Shelbourne at the RSC. Shelbourne will be eager to get off to a good start after their slow start last season left them unable to catch up with leaders Bohs and caused them to relinquish their title. Ironically the last time Shelbourne visited the RSC was the game in which they won the league title in 2000, completely outclassing the Blues and strolling to a 2-0 victory. The game will be played on the week-ending April 13th. The Blues' first away game of the season will be the following weekend when they travel to United Park to face playoff winners Drogheda United. The first series of games will also see St Pats, Bohs and Shamrock Rovers visit the RSC while the Blues will travel to Turners Cross for the first Munster Derby of the season on the week-ending May 11, while the long trip to the Brandywell to face Derry sees the end of the first series of games on June 2.
