Stadium Development

As well as the revolution taking place on the pitch, there has been another revolution taking place off it. With 3 new stands and the refurbishment of the remaining one (the East Stand), the building of two four star hotels, a night club, underground car park, apartments, offices, Health Club and Visitor Attraction a lot of things have changed in the last few years!! Chelsea have effectively built not only a new stadium without the need to move to a new ground but also a whole host of surrounding buildings and infrastructure designed to make the club not merely dependant on football for it's income. The final capacity of the ground is now 42,449 with the magnificent West Stand dominating the arena.

Outside of the stands, the whole Chelsea Village development will transform the local area. With 2 four star Hotels, luxury apartments, nightclub (Purple), sports center, Museum, Megastore, 5 restaurants and a whole host of other facilities, Chelsea Football Club will have one of the impressive sites of any football club. Chelsea Village will also provide the most powerful and stable of income streams, and help improve the team even further. The dream of a world class team in a world class stadium is drawing ever nearer.

The West Stand

The West Stand lower tier was finished 3 years ago but a long battle with the council for planning permission delayed the rest of the structure being built. Planning permission was gained in November 1999 and work resumed to complete the West stand and other areas of development around Chelsea Village in April 2001.
