The Beauty Beside Me

A Dramatic Monologue

She loved me.

The doubts that I once harbored were lifted free,

Like a bird with a newly mended wing

Like a ship sailing out into the vast sea,

Like a soul ascending into the heavens above.

She lies there next to me.

Lying there silently, sparkling eyes that would never loose their sheen,

Sparkling eyes that would bewitch me,

Filling me with happy thoughts of brighter times when my love was unrequited but I didn’t mind for I knew she would give in like she has, which she did and I have won.

Her mouth was opened slightly.

Subtly enticing,

As if to dare me to break some vile taboo

To be brave and steal a kiss and what a kiss did I steal!

She didn’t resist as she once did, no screams, no kicks, like there might have been before.

For now she would love me, forever more.

Her heart and mind filled with thoughts of me and nothing more

I claimed her as she had never been claimed before.

I filled her every pore. With my love and my strength that she thought I never had.

Now she sees as she never did, and as she always will.

She sees me as beautiful, not a tremendous bore

For only I can satisfy her forever more.

Hours passed before I paused, and surveyed that which I had won.

Her hair was blond, her legs were long, her eyes were green

But the love was gone.

Not hers of course for she still lay beside me, but mine, I was finally free.

Her beauty I can now defy as I never once could, once again I was me,

And my power was restored.

My prize still captive to me as she would be,

I don not know what magic there was before.

Yes she was beautiful but not overly so,

The sparkling green eyes were equal to none, her long blond hair matched nothing under the sun, her pale skin gleamed white, free of blemishes and scars,

Stab wounds aside of course
