A Page of various pics

Here are some pics I just felt like posting.
You may or may not find them interesting.
I suppose that depends on how bored you are at the moment (*lol* :>)

Various Pics:

a big gator

I wish I had a better camera so it would be clearer,

but this is a pic of an alligator we saw on Lake Sawgrass.

When they are in the water, you can estimate their size

you can estimate their size this way:

whatever they measure from eyes to nose tip in inches

will be roughly equal to their total length in feet.

This old boy was totally out of the water

and therefore easy to se his size

which was about 12 feet, a good-sized gator.

The last time my wife and I were out here,

we saw over 50 gators before I stopped counting

…but then again it was gator mating season *lol*

By the way, big gators like this one are usually pretty shy

and harder to get close to.

The ones that are in the 5 to 6 foot range

are generally more "scrappy"

thinking they're all bad and stuff.

One of the 6 footers kept popping up about 3 feet

from the front of the boat (my wife sits in front :>)

and he's lucky he backed off

because he was getting most unruly

and my wife was getting ready to smack him

with her paddle (my wife is small, but feisty *lol* :p)

our "100 dollar boat"

This is a pic of our "100 dollar boat"

on a lake that's the little sister of Lake Sawgrass

hence it's known as Little Sawgrass Lake.

On the left, you can see the edge of the day-shelter.

It's really useful if you happen to be out in a storm,

and I've used this particular shelter for that case.

These two lakes are part of the St. John's river system,

a huge north-flowing river that is sort of the Nile of Florida.

To the right, the water flows north through Sawgrass Lake

and eventually flows past Jacksonville

then empties in the ocean at a town called Maypoint.

To the left, behind that screening of brush,

the river runs down to Lake Hell n Blazes,

which is the nominal headwaters of the St. John's.

That is a beautiful lake, nothing like the name implies.

On some maps you'll see it listed more politely as

"Lake Helen Blazes", as if it was named after a woman.

But the local natives have assured me that this is not so;

according to their folklore, somewhere back in the mists of time,

the man who stumbled onto the lake exclaimed,

"Just where in the hell n' blazes am I?", and the name stuck.

*shrugs*

A colorful story, although I suspect it may be

laced with a healthy dose of bovine fertilizer. *lol*

my friend Dave's daughter, Tara, on my bike

Good lord! This pic is over 20 years old!

This is my friend Dave's daughter, Tara,

when she is like a year old.

She's a grown and beautiful woman now,

plus she does Shakespearean acting [cool]

as do her two bros, so kudos to them all.

This is the bike with which I went on my 4 month long

cross-country motorcycle trip

…man, that was some fun;

I'd love to do it again!

yikes!, it's hard to believe that pic is me *lol*

(but if I lose 4 more pounds,

I'll be back the that same weight :p)

That's all for now.

Have a good day.
