"He has the intonation and
instincts, the grit and the growl of a veteran bluesman...What's most striking
are his confidence
and credibility...Even though
Lang's approach is pure art-form as opposed to singing about personal experiences,
his
words are believable."

"This young man, with influences
as diverse as Syl Johnson and Albert Collins is the real deal. He has a
mastery of lead
guitar that will have reviewers
comparing him to Stevie Ray and Eric Clapton. Folks, it's been a long time
since I've seen
anyone this authentic and
committed."

"I want people to really make a judgment on me as a musician, without
anything else clouding the issue, like my age," says
17-year-old blues phenomenon Jonny Lang.
His wish has come true. Though fans and professionals are amazed at
his age, it is his music that impresses them the most. Lang
has been compared to Stevie Ray Vaughn, Eric Clapton, and Albert Collins.
It's a lot to live up to, but Lang is not one to feel
pressure from his love of music. "I just have fun singin' those old
blues numbers," he relates.
Lang first started playing guitar at age 12, after seeing Ted Larsen's
Bad Medicine Blues Band. He took "about eight" lessons
from Larsen, and soon became the star and leader of the group, which
was renamed Kid Jonny Lang & The Big Bang. Their
album, Smokin', was a regional hit in the Midwest, and Lang began to
receive offers from record labels and producers. Bonnie
Raitt came to hear him play during one of her trips to the Twin Cities,
and Lang has been invited on stage by such names as
Luther Allison, Lonnie Brooks, Kenny Neal, Jimmy Thackery, Syl Johnson,
and Buddy Guy. His first solo album, Lie To Me,
was number one on the Billboard Heatseekers chart and then soared up
the Top 100 charts.
But the sudden attention hasn't affected Lang. "I've never been nervous
or scared on stage, except maybe the first time," he
says. "And I've never been shy about doing what I do or expressing
myself in public, even sometimes when I had no idea what I
was doing, and when I was probably embarrassing myself. I just dig
in and play."
