Jonny Lang "Prison Blues" Concert (All credits to "Friends of Brandon Hein")

November 2, 2000 - Jonny Lang performed a "Prison Blues" concert at the Key Club in West Hollywood to benefit Brandon Hein.  Jonny is a Friend of Brandon Hein and visited Brandon in prison at Tehachapi. Lang, the bands, the Key Club and staff all donated their time and facilities to support Brandon.  Thanks to all who helped make this a success!  While money doesn't necessarily buy justice in the U.S., you can't press your fight for justice without huge sums of money!

November 3, 2000 -The Jonny Lang "Prison Blues" Brandon Hein benefit concert
at The Key Club in West Hollywood was a huge success!  The concert was sold
out!  The Key Club was packed with Jonny Lang fans and Brandon Hein supporters
who experienced an awesome performance.  A silent auction was also a huge success.
When bidding for an autographed Jonny Lang guitar reached $1,000 the two guys who
were bidding against each other said to Gene Hein, "Hey, if you canget two guitars we'll
both take one for $1,000," and Jonny threw in another guitar, then along came two more guys . . .
making a total of four guitars from Jonny. Brandon's mom and dad spoke to the crowd and a video clip was shown summarizing the injustice.  Jonny, the bands, The Key Club and staff all donated their time to the cause. Thanks to all who helped make this a great success and particular thanks to
Brandon's friend Jonny Lang.  Jonny came up with the concert idea after visiting Brandon at
Tehachapi.  About 4am Friday morning, sitting in a deli with Scott Budnick, a friend of Brandon's
who organized the concert, Jonny confessed that everything went "perfect" and that he had a
blast because he was doing it for Brandon.  Jonny Lang fans agree: they experienced an
awesome performance.  Only one key person was missing: Brandon.  As a 23-year-old he should
have been at the concert, should have been sitting at a table with young people his age - this part
of his life is being stolen by an injustice system and it can never be given back to him.

November 7, 2000 - Sad news. Doug Nelson, bassist in Jonny Lang's band, was killed early
Tuesday when he was hit by a pickup truck on a rural highway in northern Minnesota. Nelson, 46,
was walking home after watching the Vikings game at an area restaurant. The bassist lived in a
cabin in McGregor, about 110 miles north of Minneapolis.  Brandon's "Prison Blues" benefit was
the last concert he played.  Our thoughts and prayers go out to all.

November 20, 2000 - $18,931.27 is the total to date from the Jonny Lang "Prison Blues" Concert to benefit Brandon Hein. If you'd like to help us reach $24,820 ["State Property is all numbered - Brandon's number is K24820] you can still send your contribution to:
Friends of Brandon Hein
P.O. Box 61
Canoga Park, CA  91305.
Our special thanks to Jonny Lang, the bands, the Key Club and personnel, all of whom donated their services.  Thanks to those who attended and donated.

December 14, 2000 - Rolling Stone reported on the Jonny Lang concert. According to Rolling Stone,
"'It just pulls at your heart strings when you see something like this going down,' said Jonny Lang
after playing a benefit concert for California prison inmate Brandon Hein. 'It’s not a true justice
system when people are being sent away for the wrong reasons.'
"Hein 23, is currently serving a life sentence for his involvement in a 1995 fight that resulted in the
stabbing death of an Agoura Hills teen. He neither initiated the fight nor wielded the fatal weapon.
Lang who first visited Hein six months ago, performed an hour-long set at L.A.’s Key Club, where
the audience included Hein’s parents, Hilary Swank and Leann Rimes. 'Brandon is a great guy,"
said Lang. "Anything I can do to help him, I’m happy to do.'"
