Jonny Lang Returns To The Islands !

Jonny Lang at the Honolulu Zoo

Young Blues Guitar Sensation Jonny Lang has been "Wander(ing) This
World" and
celebrated his nineteenth birthday in Hawaii on January 29, 2000. Blue
Rooster Productions presented the birthday boy and his band at the
Honolulu
Zoo on Friday February 4 @ 7:00 PM along with opening act Bluzilla.
Bluzilla is another one of those very good local bands that can be seen
at
O'Toole's Pub regularly these days. Their full hour long set was made
up of
some decent originals like the one about the rubbah slippah blues and
their
take on Paul Butterfield's "Born In Chicago" that transformed that
classic
song into "Born In Hawaii". They were well received and got the very
large
crowd warmed up for Jonny Lang. He is one of the most energetic and
enthusiatic performers you'll ever see, he certainly gives an audience
it's
moneys worth! The 90 minute set consisted of "Still Raining", Sonny Boy
Williamson's "Good Morning Lttle School Girl", Tinsley Ellis'"A Quitter
Never
Wins", "The Levee", "Walkin' Away", "Right Back" Albert Collins'
"There's
Gotta Be A Change", "Second Guessing", "Leaving To Stay", "Rack 'em
Up",
Buddy Guy's "She's Out There Somewhere" which included an incredible,
fierce
guitar battle with Paul Diethlem, the band's other guitarist (he was
fantastic!) that had the audience on it's feet, cheering wildly for
more.
Jonny Lang (on accoustic guitar) and the band returned for an encore of
"Breaking Me" before pulling out all of the stops on his biggest hit
"Lie To
Me" that again had the crowd in a frenzy. The other members of Jonny
Lang's
excellent band were: Bruce McCabe on keyboards, Billy Thommes on drums
and
Doug Nelson on bass. This was easily the largest and most diverse crowd
we've
seen yet at a Blue Rooster Production and everyone had a hell of a good
time
!!! There was also a (Sold-Out) performance on the Big Island @ the
Kona
Brewing Company February 5 @ 5:00 PM with Big Phil and the Bottom Line
and
the Larry Dupio Band.
