Go! For the Throat, review by Levi.

First up was Andrew crooning his way through some solo work. This is really nothing new to anyone around Cheyenne, though he’s never done it this acoustic and lo-fi before. Personally I love the bastard and I think he has metallic balls to go out and sing with all his black, black heart. Ok, it’s not that black, in fact, it’s one of the most supportive and positive forces in the Cheyenne scene right now, and I for one think Andrew does killer work both solo and in his groups Dischotomy and the Basement Show.

Next up was my band, Voice of Simon. Buzz, our singer, just sold us out for a college education, so were without our main source of audience antagonism. But I came prepared for the dilemma, having bloated one song with words and brought some Emily Dickinson to be read over the others. The question was, who would read? Tiffany made it immaculately clear that she would rather have Chinese water torture performed on her for weeks on end than come up and read poetry while we freak out, so we forced Andrew to come up. He did a great job, but ran away after the first song. So we made Pants come up and do a number with us, and that was equally entertaining and impressive. Throughout the night we had Seneca, Kiel, and Bob all read for us while we played, and they all kicked ass. It was one of our best shows ever, until Chad spazzed out all over the microphone halfway through our last ditty “Range Kitty” and essentially ended the song. But even that was pretty killer.

While setting up, Brian and I heard the drummer from Go! For The Throat get rather upset. We heard that his bass drum’s spur was broken, essentially turning the instrument into a rocking cradle with no support. He had to jam a cymbal stand under the drum to play the show, but you could tell he was pretty upset about it the whole time. Otherwise the guys in Go! For The Throat were overflowing with good attitudes and were chatting it up with kids around the basement before and after the show. The guitarist had a few feedback squeal issues, but it wasn’t a big deal, and the band dove head first into a non-stop bombastic set. These guys were simply awesome, doing that old school hardcore right but keeping it interesting as well. Their energy was off the meter and they were just having fun, and they even squeezed a few smiles out of the drummer. They mentioned that Omaha was a super crappy town and Cheyenne was a welcome sight, and dedicated their whole set to JD’s daughter, who they spent most of the day with I hear. Overall, GO! FOR THE THROAT fuckin' rocks, and if you miss them in your town or you missed them in Chey-town, well, sucks to be you.

Thanks must also be handed to the kids who showed. All of us were worried that this show’s turnout would be depressingly similar to the last one in JD’s basement, but thankfully all the old standby’s made it and even some new faces came by. Everyone was really cool, it sounded like we all had a good time and may have even made some new friends. And isn’t that what all this punk rock garbage is about?
