Floor Beam Inspection for the Summer of 02', by Kyle

Although I didn't get off work in time to catch the first half of the show, I did catch the second half, and I was still very pleased.

I made it in time to catch the majority of Napier's set, which I've been looking forward to for a while. I was out of town for quite some time and came back just in time for Battle of the Bands, and their set there was very good, but short. Then they went on what I heard was a fairly successful tour of the Midwest. They did really good. I love to watch them play. They exhibit such energy in each song that is extremely fun to watch and really gets me going. It was also entertaining to watch Tad and Chad and their mic problems. It seems like every time they fixed and repositioned it, it just sunkk back down even lower than before during the course of the song. Chad had it sink down to the point that he looked like he was in the Grand Limbo Championships the way he was bending backwards to sing into it, and once Tad was nearly lying on the ground. Still, a great set. I really look forward to their next show, which I believe is on the 12th (check the shows section) in Aaron's garage. EDITORS NOTE: Napier's next show is on the 13th at the posse house and in Aaron's garage show is on the 19th. Oh, so that I don't leave anyone out, Seneca's vocals and guitars were really on and rockin', and Brandon's drumming had kind of a new found power in them, He really slammed the cymbals. Go see these guys the next opportunity you get, you won't regret it, unless you're the snaggle-toothed bum, in which case Chad and myself will gather around and give you a good poking. Go ahead and bring your friends, because Tad will definitely be there. You're dicked.

But now I suppose I should write about One Hand Clapping. An excellent set and an excellent good-bye for them from a mostly sober band. This is a rare occasion. I'm used to their drunken antics much more than sobriety. The show was in Delo's basement, a great place for a show if you're a midget, dwarf, gnome, a pc little person, or just really damn short. The ceiling hangs very low and a few beams are extremely hazardous. It is really fun to see all the tall people whack their heads. I love it, until it happened to me. Twice. More on my pain later. They started with taking requests from the crowd, which was cool. It shows their talent to just play a song on the fly without being prepared. Their songs are very good, musically, and the lyrics are very humorous. The show did come to a bit of a stop when some damn hippie lost his damn sandal in the damn pit. If you come to a show, wear shoes, this isn't Phish or String Cheese's Musical Accident. They played "Things we Don't Understand" which is great, and I hope that damn hippie was listening. That lead them to "The Mullet song" which should've been for Brian O., since he has a true mullet instead of an unintentional one. All in all, it was a great show. Delo taught me how to play No Man Long Distance Pogo, which should be an official event at the white trash olympics. The show rocked, all you idiots who left should be kicked in the shins no less than three times. I know we'll hear more from Fred, with AD. I hope we hear more from Delo in the near future. He's extremely funny and an incredibly good bass player. As for David, we'll all miss you and your mere presence in the scene here. We all wish you the best in L.A. Keep in touch with someone here. Well, that's it for OHC. It was fun while it lasted.

In a way I am somewhat glad that OHC is no more, for me. Every time I've seen them, I get hurt, and it was progressively getting worse each show. It started off with bruises, then cuts, but then last time at Battle, Delo accidentally set me on fire, and at this show, I walked away (luckily) with a slightly bruised and swollen eye and a chipped and possibly cracked bone above my elbow. We're still waiting on what the doctor says. It was all worth it, though, and I hope they get back together for one more show sometime in the late future. I think I can take one more. We'll miss you, OHC.
