Avenue Of The Strongest 10/28/02

One Less On the Pie, by JD

Originally It was planned to have 3 bands on this bill. My mother called me to inform that there was a van parked out in front of Drakula's. I pack up the car and headed out to pick up who ever it was and bring them home so that they didn't have to freeze. I also remember this as the show that Kyle needed a ride to. I got the good job of meeting and greeting the band while Kerry got the job of picking up our sound man under weird directions that involved an ugly green mail box.

Back at the house it was more Simpsons and bathroom than it was any rock and roll excess. Mysteriously Signsedso had not presented them selves to us yet and after the Simpsons got over it was time to head over to Drakula's. Strangely there was no Signsedso. Even more odd was the fact that Brian had beat us there. Either way, Napier showed up exactly the same time and Chad began to unload.

Napier went first because there was still no sign of Signsedso at doors time. The door proved to have about fifteen paid and there was probably another ten or so in attendance. Napiers set was capped off by a new song. To my surprise most of the crowd knew that it was a new song. Proof that the release of their CD is way overdue. A few of the Drakula regulars argued endlessly about the proper grammar of Club Drakula's. So it was at this point in Cheyenne music scene history that Brian officially changed the name of our beloved club to Club: Drakula's. Borrowing the two dots from my name that I don't use and adding to the effect of Drakula!

Next was Avenue of the Strongest. Their name being proudly explained to me as a street that was named after New York City garbage men. Their sound was almost to the tee as to what I expected. Dark, powerful, Fugazian, a bit like Drives Like Jeheu. Very good. Everyone that was there was awe struck by their performance in the cozy warehouse. At that moment would prove to be our last in the next two weeks without snow. It was about half way through the Avenue set that it was reveled to me that Signsedso had let a message at Brandon's (Napier's drummer/voc) That Signsedso's van had broken down and that they wouldn't be making it to the show until 9-9:30 if at all.

After the set, a few T-shirts and CD's were sold. There wasn't much waiting around for Signsedso as the snow started to fall thick and wet. Our grammar police were a little disappointed there wasn't another band playing but were put at ease when the reason of their absence was explained. The Avenue of the Strongest guys were troopers as there were from Spokane, are hockey fans, and a little drunk (responsibly and away from Drakula's . So the cold wasn't about to slow them down too much. Pizza commenced and the people of Cheyenne played good host once again.

Thanks to Napier for adding support to another good traveling band. Thanks to Avenue of the Strongest for being so polite. Best wishes go out to Signsedso for the future performance of their van. ****JD
