Too Much Freakin School! Not Enough Rock!, by Kyle

think this show definitely proved to be an answer to a question JD posed on a past flyer. "Does Cheyenne Rock?" Damn straight it does. This night was no exception whatsoever. For the first time in Olivebranch history, a band came back, even on the same tour. I think that goes to show that the scene is building. Well, here we go...

Started off with The Downs from Denver (ex- U.S. Hoss). These guys were great. They played fast, melodic punk that really disappointed me. The only let down I had was that they didn't have any recordings for sale. I was incredibly impressed by them and really got into their music. If they would've had a CD, I most definitely would've indulged without the slightest hesitation. I do, however, wish the vocals could've been louder. I had the P.A. pushed to the brink of feedback, but unfortunately the band has yet to learn the "Stage Volume" is the magic phrase. If they would've turned down a bit it would've been mixed excellent, but whatever. I was also really impressed to learn that this show was only their fifth show ever, and they were as tight as a right-wing republican's asshole. I'm really looking forward to Nov. 29, when they come back and rock the Posse House with Laymen Terms. This will most definitely be a jaw-dropping show all night, any that attend will not be let down in the least bit with any portion of the bill. In other words, go to this show if you accomplish nothing else in your life. Kill yourself afterwards.

Then it was our returning hero's, The Cost. They brought their original blend of dark punk straight from Oakland, and then they came back! They played here back in late September I believe, and were then going to come back and play for us on Halloween, but a last minute scheduling in Chicago left us waiting a few extra days. It's worth it. They play this kind of dark punk with screams and melancholic visuals in the lyrics. Together, they form tight melodies and thumping bass lines. They, as well, are tighter than a nun's hoo-hoo (for a translation of hoo-hoo, ask a five-year old). Their new album, Chimera, is released and distributed by Lookout! Records, and is also one hell of an effort. I liked how the front three of them formed a cool campfire-like semicircle with the mics and sang their hearts out. I really hope they come back again. I hope they had fun, since they were stranded here for several days after the show because of their Love-Machine (Van). I really enjoy their album and want them to come back many times again, and encourage all to go check them out in the future.

I must apologize. I've poured out on many essays for school lately and suffer slightly from writer's block. Hopefully Brian will get his shit together and write them the decent review they deserve from the last time they were here. I guess all I can say is that they truly do rock and I wish them the best.
