Daytime Hero 3/25/03

Maritime bedtime wartime night-time goodtime Hero by Gemini

In response to the agonized plea for someone to help jd out with the reviews page, here we go...

March 25th was a tuesday show that had the feeling of some of olivebranch's better friday night shows. the turnout was alright, and the lineup was unreal. first of all, 101 etc. rocked the house with their new and improved set that had one undelying theme: "fuck the war". the set was spectacular, and showed a dramatic improvement in energy and ability. as someone who gave them props from their very first show, i have to say that i was absolutely floored by this performance. the impromptu lyrics on masterbation were also a nice touch. this band has a lot of talent, and they're already beginning to tap into their potential. rock on!

voice of simon then set up their equipment, complete with keyboard facing the back of the room. the restless crowd looked around, and realized that the band had set up and left. all was confusion as a hooded-sweater-clad kyle improvised some extremely haunting melodies on the keyboard set to church organ. the members filed in, also somberly attired, carrying candles and quieting the observers by their presence. as soon as they began to play, however, all hell broke loose. chad was flinging his guitar around, a paper cutout of barney (you all are familiar with it) went sailing over the heads of a bewildered mass, and the speakers alomost fell over. the story of the indestructable conga and the cheap sword, as well as levi's newly acquired injury, can be found on napier's board. this set was extremely short, but i'm still trying to figure out the sequence of events.

as the crowd thinned, daytime hero made their way onto the stage. these guys really put their hearts into their music, and it showed to the seven or eight of us who stuck around. although their sound was a bit to girlie for my taste, the lyrics about romance and failure spoke out in a truely expressive way, and the brief seconds of hard sound were enough to keep my interest alive.

all in all, the show on the 25th was a success. a few personal conflicts ::cough, cough, brian, kyle:: nonwithstanding, i had a very good time. this was one of olivebranch's better shows. all who missed it only hurt themselves.

much love, *******gemini
