Dysarranged 11/22/02

Holding down the fort on a Friday, by JD

The first thing I noticed about Dysarranged is they play up the punk fashion to the tee. I was wondering if they were going to enjoy themselves at the Ascetic show at Ernies that had caused me to delay the beginning of the Dysarranged show an hour. It was decided that it would be a good idea to flier Ernies and try and get some of the Ascetic crowd to come on over and enjoy a night of punk rock and comedy.

The trip to Ernies was a rough ride that consisted of a few rowdy "punk" kids fighting each other in the van while listening to The Living End. I was beginning to question this whole trip thinking that I wouldn't see anybody at Ascetic's shindig who would dare grace the same room as these "punk" kids who couldn't do much more than talk about how weird it was to be in Wyoming and how punk certain things weren't. But a few of them did comment on how cool Ernies was (like I didn't already this).

To my surprise there was about half of the Olive Branch regulars kicking it at the Ascetic show waiting to head over to the basement. I'm glad they did too because there is NO REASON not to support a local band and Ascetic did draw a good size crowd. Ascetic played well and from what I hear they were pretty pumped too. The P.A. that they rented was pretty nice. You could hear the vocals pretty well. I wonder if the stand had anything to do with that.

I was unable to stick around because I was expecting the High Maintenance Boyfriends to set up and we has to set up for the bands. I think the fliering mission was a success and it was nice to see Ascetic. I think the experience added to the pleasure of the evening. I didn't get to see the HMB very much though. Working the door and baby sitting drunken "punk" kids from Denver has it's disadvantages as I'm sure you can imagine. I did how ever get to see some pictures of Ameron getting a bucket shoved on her head and that tall black dude in drag so I'm sure that the laughter I heard coming up the stairs was genuine.

Next up was Dysarranged........ Behold! What was that sound? Holy Shit is my house going to break? I ran down stairs to meet a large crowd of moshers at the foot of the steps and peeking through the water tank another crowd of moshers. Then Bam Paul ran smack into the water heater and fear struck. I spent the rest of the show three feet but 20 people from the band protecting the water heater. With Chad and Kyle's help we kept the water in the house warm for the future. As the Crowd swarmed this way that way as an excited Dysarranged played their brand of straight forward four chord punk. More than once a song would stop and peeps would cheer but it wasn't the end, the crazy crowd had just unplugged the power so it sounded like the end. What a work out this crowd was. I ended up with a bruised foot and a sweat soaked shirt. Levi ended up with a stolen mic that was returned to him a week later by a guy who I can't decide if I should call the cops on, ban him from the house or slap in his bull head. Either way I'll wait to hear his story for myself. I think that those actions explain the feeling in the air though and I'm glad that it was returned and that means something.

*****With Love and for ALL of us
