Laymen Terms 4/12/03

Groupies Need to Extend the Love by Adam … Motherfucker.

I’ve already set the scene for cursing, so, look out for more cunt asses! Me and Biggy D from 101 etc. showed up at about 7:10, because we thought it would be as crowded as something that gets real crowded. We were kicking it at Ernie’s, where we were supposed to save a dollar off of our tickets if we bought them early, but the guy working the counter said that there weren’t any there, so, it might have been sold out sad face. So, we went early, just so we could get in.

I say to Dylan, as we get closer, “there’s only one car.” Dylan says to me, “yep. Huh.” So, we go inside, where we see about 4 people, pay our cover, and wait around for like an hour and a half. I guess the like 2 hour late start was to wait for the sun to go down, and, people to show up.

And, for Happy Bad Day there is a good crowd. Happy Bad Day starts out alright, playing their pop punk that the girls love. But, near the end of the set, after their, what I believe was 4th cover, I start to get more restless than I usually am to their style (I have nothing against the guys, I just don’t feel the funk) and people in the back start yelling mean hurtful things between songs. So they play their last song, and start to unload all there shit.

Dischotomy, my favorite band of the night, then started playing. And, during the first song, some dancing! Yay, energy at a punk show! But, all the girls and pop punkers that came for Happy Bad Day didn’t dig that stupid sound, so they left, leaving like 20 people. But, those twenty people rocked out to some fine damned music. Dischotomy made the few willing dance, got everyone standing up, and made a conscious effort to have some energy, I applaud them for that.

Then, Eyes Caught Fire, even less people were there for them it seemed, and that made me sad. Only regulars stuck around, and they were rewarded. I don’t know how I would classify it, besides awesome. When I was talking to the drummer while waiting for the show to start, before getting rocked in the balls incredibly fucking hard (thanks Dylan) the egg fryer told me that they sounded like, “loud, rhythmic, fast, slow, loud noise.” He left out amazing, but, I’ll leave it at that.

Then, most everyone’s favorites, Laymen Terms stepped up. They got the rest of the people still there rocking out like their cocks were out. They owned 98 percent of the crowd. They had like 30 minutes of some decent emo rock, with some of the best drumming ever. Jamison, their skins man is awesome good. One of the best drummers I’ve seen come through these parts. Laymen terms then played an encore. And packed up.

It was a good show, I wish more people were there. And I wish that the people that came stayed, but still, good music all around.
