Leftover Turkey, by Jared

what's up kids?? i hope you all had a very safe and very enjoyable holiday... i know i did... and WOW... 8 bands in three days this last thanksgiving weekend... we don't do that too much around here... first up were voice of simon and abbhorance at the legendary st. andrew's hall... voice of simon as usual graced us with their special special blend of what it is they do... i really have no idea exactly what that is but damn is it inspiring!!! sadly, simon's voice was not heard as the p. a. would not allow it... speaking of simon's voice we also had the pleasure of seeing mr. buzz once again though he did not scream anything into any microphones... in fact i'm not sure if he screamed anything at all... but that's irrelevant.... the booming voice was followed by hardcore kids abhorrance who drilled us with very catchy guitar riffs and some wonderful drumming... these guys were very cool and had some very good energy, despite a turkey-dazed crowd.. i was unable to stay for their entire set so i can't really conclude this event, though i had a wonderful wonderful time... i heard the singer from abhorrance slapped is head on a pipe so i hope we all gave thanks... just kidding... it was a great show...

moving on... there was a specatcular show on friday nov. 29th at the posse house filled with badly dancing hoppies, naked males, gratuitous underaged drinking and far too much crowd surfing (my fault)... the downs- hailing from denver- opened and closed their set with fog, strobe lights and johnny knoxville's chimo glasses and despite a few techical glitches did a fairly good job... i'd never seen or heard of the downs before and must admit i was not let down(s)... they brought two friends with them... they were very enthusiastic during this performance... next up was discotomy who tend to grow on me every time i see them... they never fail to kick things up a notch just when things need to get kicked... actually i think i got kicked during their set... andrew started with a neat little prose and abby got really drunk... really drunk... she also denied my request to "go make out" and i almost had my left eye removed (in an unrelated incident) but that's okay.. i don't really know what else i can say about these kids... they are wonderful people and a great band... don't miss them... if you were there you know what i'm talking about... if you weren't you suck and don't deserve to know... actually i don't remember much of their set but boy did i have a good time... shortly following discotomy was colorado springs stepchildren smarter than yesterday who also made a suprising cheyenne debut... not only did they take us on a fantastic emo journey but they allowed us to relive the 80's vicariously through thier mike tyson beating (without revealing that embarassing rash)... i really wasn't sure what to expect from these boys but any friend of laymen terms is a friend of mine... i would definately see these guys again... napier left us all hopping mad with their shirtless lipsticked set... i love watching these guys from as close as possible... but not too close... heh heh... anyway... brandon graciously invited two cageless dancers to sway on the stage as the boys ripped the floor apart... beer was spilled on the floor and at least 35% of the audience cried out what lyrics they knew... even flame-fingered chad russle and seneca fuckin riggins removed their shirts which is, for me at least, a rarity and a damn good sign that shit was blowin up... i'm sorry for those of you who saw my ass... and eric beeman's ass... but you'll get over it... so maybe i'm not sorry... i'm sure someone else was naked by this point... so big deal... and shortly after we were released from our arkham (har har) we joined our bestest friends laymen terms who ripped my head off of my body and left it in someone's car... anyone who left this show before any music stopped or showed up late is a tool... unless you were saving lives... this was an amazing and sweaty sweaty set complete with 2 (gasp!) encore songs... not a bad way to spend an evening recovering from wild turkey... like i said i don't remember ALL of the specifics but shit it was a great show... i got my ass kicked... i had a good time... and you did too... nick barker got some great b&w pics of this event and his wife liz got some very drunken shots of what i can only assume was the same thing... this should have been a super memorable show for me... lol... and i'm sure you will all hold this show in high regard when seeing any show for the rest of your lives... i know i had fun...

finally i stumbled into zen's bistro (ick!) and happened upon possible bad news.... i went to school with those guys and they never cease to amaze me with their ability to sing about lobsters and squid and still make me feel like a hippie when they do it... it was a fun show and a rare one as they break up every six months to pursue a college life... hey... that's cool... these boys are quite the combo and i would recomend seeing them when granted the opportunity because their shows are few and far between...

well kids... if you've gotten this far into the reveiw i thank you for tolerating my rambling and poor punctuation and vernacular grammar... (i swear i was gonna be an english major).. if you were at any of these shows you got the good time you were promised... i was one of few (if there was anyone else) who was fortunate enough to enjoy all three spectacles... i'd like to take this opportunity to thank levi for humping my leg... it's been a while... and i appreciate it... hahaha... let's keep the scene alive... it's healthy, it's fun, it's addicting, and you don't need a light bulb to smoke it out of..
play safe
