It was seven months later. Lana had taken Kristen's spot. And the voice had been right, no one did find out. And Lana had absolutely no intentions of telling anyone either. After all, she reasoned, if she did, she would lost not only her spot on the tour as a dancer, but probably the next ten or fifteen years of her life as well. And besides, it wasn't like she had intentionally done it...
Every time Lana thought of the incident she was amazed at how little remorse she felt. The voice hadn't returned since then either. Lana decided that this too was a good thing, since it had been the voice that had made her do it.
*knock knock*
"Hey hun," Brian said opening the door, "You ready to go?"
Lana smiled at her boyfriend of three months, "Just a second."
"Hey, AJ & Jace are coming too."
"AJ and Jace?" she raised an eyebrow.
"Yeah, she didn't tell you? They hooked up the other night -- finally, all they ever talked about was each other."
Lana laughed as the two entered the room, then stood, "Ready to go?"
**********
Lana sat at the table dwindling her fork while Brian signed autographs. Her eyes drifted over to where AJ and Jace were dancing. She examined each of his tatoos, wondering if he had any that were less visible. Then she looked at his big, soft brown eyes; they looked so inviting.
You want him.
Lana snapped out of her trance, looking around for the source of the voice, wondering why it sounded so familiar in a place so far from her home. Then she realized that it wasn't a person, just a voice. The same voice that had insisted she take poor Kristen's life. It was back.
No, Lana tried to fight it off, I have Brian. Besides, he's with Jace.
So, you can still have him, just the same. I can give you anything you want.
"No," she said aloud, making Brian and a few other people turn to look at her. "I have to go," she said, standing, "Excuse me." Lana rushed out of the room, but not before taking one last look at AJ. They locked eyes, and she knew right then and there, despite her best intentions, someone's relationship would be ruined before the night was over.
"Lana?" She heard Brian's soft voice and felt a comforting hand on her shoulder. Reluctantly, she turned around, her eyes swollen and face tear stained. "What's wrong, Lanie?"
"I -" she started sobbing and he pulled her close, resting her head on his chest. She could hear his heartbeat. That beautiful heart that would soon be broken, "Brian, you have to do something for me."
"What is it, baby?"
"I love you," she said, "And don't you ever forget that. No matter what happens tonight, or tomorrow, or whenever, don't ever forget that I love you."
Brian chuckled softly, "Lanie, what are you talking about?"
"Just say it -- promise me you won't forget."
