Nick and Kelly:

Piece 7: You're All I Need

You're all I need to get by You're like the sweet mornin' dew every time I look at you And it is plain to see, you are my destiny With my arms open wide, I threw away my pride I'll sacrifice for you and dedicate my life for you

I will go where you lead You're always there every time I need And when I lose my will, you'll be there to push me up the hill

There's no, no lookin' back for us We got love, sure love It's enough You're all, you're all I want ... Oh, all the joys under the sun wrapped up into one Oh, you're all I need You're all I need Oh yeah yeah You're all I need to get by

-You're All I Need; Kelly Clarkson

(American Idol)

“Well, this is usually when I sing Journey's Open Arms.”

The crowd was screaming so loudly one could bearly hear him.

“Anyway,” Nick laughed before continuing, “some things have changed over the past five days. I found an incredible woman who loves me as much as I love her.” He ignored the fact that most of the crowd grew silent and focused in on those who were cheering for him. “This songs for Kelly.”

Kelly smiled from the wings as Nick's band began to play a familiar song. The fact that he was about to sing a Mariah Carey song made her want to laugh, but when he began to sing, the octave having been lowered, tears formed in her eyes. He sounded amazing and he was singing to her.

“When I am lost, you shine a light for me and set me free. When I am low, you wash away my tears and take me through the loneliness and emptiness. Through the darkest night, somehow I survive through it all. When you tell me I'm the only one you need, sweet and tenderly. And your love breaks away the clouds surrounding me. All I have I wanna give to thee, oh baby. If I should fall, your love is strong enough to lift me up. If I'm afraid, oh baby, you chase away my fears and take me to a brighter place beyond the rain and I feel all right 'cause you're by my side through it all. And you tell me I'm the only one you need, sweet and tenderly. And your love breaks away the clouds surrounding me. All I have I wanna give to thee. You take me through the loneliness and emptiness and I feel all right 'cause you're by my side through it all. You tell me I'm the only one you need, so sweet and tenderly. And your love just breaks away the clouds surrounding me. Baby, all I have I wanna give to thee. Wanna give you all of my love. Now and forever, my love. All I have I wanna give to thee.”

Thirty minutes later, the show was over and Nick had showered in his dressing room. It was a traveling night and he had five minutes to locate Kelly and make sure she was on his bus for the drive. He grabbed his things and made his way down the long corridor to Kelly's dressing room. He smiled as he walked inside and heard her banging around in the bathroom, probably having just gotten out of the shower. It was strange; they'd only been dating for five days, but they already felt comfortable walking into each other's rooms without knocking.

“Kel?” he called as he walked over to a table in the corner and helped himself to the vegetable tray.

“I'll be out in a second,” Kelly's voice was muffled behind the wooden door. “Hey, help yourself to the food.”

Nick grinned around a mouthful of chocolate chip cookie. “All righty.”

A few minutes later she made her way from the bathroom, a room-full of steam leaving with her. She looked clean and fresh and very much alive.

“Hey, baby,” she grinned as she dropped her hairdryer on a nearby chair and made her way over to him, happy to be greeted with a hug and a kiss. “You taste like chocolate.”

He laughed, pulling her closer. “Yeah, well . . . darn good cookies.”

“That was really sweet of you tonight, Nicky.”

“What was?” he played innocent, but his eyes gave him away as they usually did.

“Singing for me, silly,” she whispered, nuzzling her face into his neck. “You coming on my bus tonight?”

“No.”

She looked up at him, surprised.

“You're coming on mine.”
