End of the Road: The Story

YoSwtThang@aol.com

Girl, you know we belong together I have no time for you to be playin' with my heart like this You'll be mine forever, baby, you just see

We belong together, and you know that I'm right Why do you play with my heart, Why do you play with my mind? Said we'd be forever, said it'd never die How could you love me, and leave me, And never say goodbye?

When I can't sleep at night without holding you tight Girl, each time I try I just break down and cry Pain in my head, oh I'd rather be dead Spinnin' around and around

Although we've come to the end of the road, Still I can't let go It's a natural, you belong to me, I belong to you Come to the end of the road, still I can't let go It's a natural, you belong to me, I belong to you

Girl, I know you really love me, you just don't realize You've never been there before, it's only your first time Maybe I'll forgive you, mm-mm-mm... maybe you'll try We should be happy together, forever, you and I

When you love me again, like you loved me before, This time I want you to love me much more This time, this day, just come to my bed And baby, just don't let me down

Although we've come to the end of the road (End of the road) Still I can't let go (End of the road, no I can't let go, baby) It's a natural, you belong to me, I belong to you (I dont know what I'm gonna do) Come to the end of the road (I don't know what I'm gonna do, 'Cause I know I've come to the end of the road, the end of the road) Still I can't let go (Oh my God, oh my God. Help me out a little bit, baby) It's a natural, you belong to me, I belong to you

Girl, I'm here for you All those times at night when you just hurt me, And just ran out with that other fella Baby, I knew about it, I just didn't care You just don't understand how much I love you, do you? I'm here for you I'm not out to go out there and cheat all night, Just like you did, baby, but that's alright (Maybe I'll forgive you) I love you anyway, and I'm still gonna be here For you till my dying day, baby (Maybe you'll try) (We should be happy together, forever, you and I) Right now, I'm just in so much pain, baby 'Cause you just won't come back to me, will you? Just come back to me Yes, baby, my heart is lonely My heart hurts, baby Yes, I feel pain too Baby, please

This time, this day, just come to my bed And baby, just don't let me down

Although we've come to the end of the road (Although we've come to the end of the road) Still I can't let go (I know I just can't let go, no no...) It's a natural, you belong to me, I belong to you (I don't know what I'm gonna do, I don't know what I'm gonna do) Come to the end of the road ('Cause I know I've come to the end of the road, the end of the road) Still I can't let go (Oh my God, oh my God. Help me out a little bit, baby) It's a natural (baby), you belong to me (baby, baby), I belong to you

Although we've come to the end of the road Still I can't let go (alright, alright, alright) It's a natural (it's a natural), you belong to me (you belong to me), I belong to you (I belong to you) Come to the end of the road (Although we've come to the end of the road) Still I can't let go (I know I just can't let go, no no...) It's a natural, you belong to me, I belong to you

-End of the Road, by Boyz II Men

Nick looked at Mia from across the room. She sat with her hands folded and hanging over her knees, her arms resting on her legs, as she leaned forward intently. Nick had no idea what she was waiting for - his blessing? Why would he bless her and another guy?! Was she crazy??

"Just get out, Mia. I don't know what you're waiting around for. What do you want me to say??" he fumed, trying to hide his hurt. Maybe if he came across as angry, she wouldn't sense the tears that were about to spill from his eyes. Maybe she wouldn't know how much of an affect she had on him. Of course he'd known she was cheating on him - he'd felt the change in their relationship from the first night that she'd come home from being with the other man. He'd felt something different when he made love to her from then on... maybe it was because he was making love to her... and she was picturing someone else. He knew that much.

Mia looked up at him with strong eyes. She wouldn't show him how much she was breaking inside. It wasn't that she wanted to be with him... well maybe it was... she didn't know anymore. Half of her wanted the other man... half of her wanted the guy that was everything Nick wasn't. The other half of her, though she tried desperately to ignore it, wanted Nick... who had everything the other man didn't. The question was, which half was she to listen to? She'd dealt with that question so many times - working it a different way each time... yet, she came up with a different solution each time - and each different solution confused her more and more. It had all started when she felt that Nick wasn't happy with her - she didn't know where the feeling had come from... it'd been sudden. For all she'd known, Nick may have just been having a bad day - but she'd jumped to conclusions, and intent on not getting hurt she'd immediately struck up a relationship with a co-worker. After a while it wasn't the fact that Nick didn't love her - because she knew he did - she felt he did - but it was the fact that she was falling in love with the other man... or at least, she thought she was. As she looked at Nick, from across the room - her sitting on the couch; Nick's arms resting on the fireplace mantle, his face buried in his arms, one leg perched on the step of the fireplace, the other on the ground below. He looked distraught. She was leaving him.

After what felt like hours, Nick finally looked at her again. And then it came - it really was anger - he was hurt, he was sad, but he was angry too - before it had just been an illusion he'd wanted her to believe in - he hadn't really been angry at her - but now he was. He wanted her to leave. "Mia, get out!!!"

A shiver ran down Mia's body as she slowly stood from the couch, grabbed her jacket and her purse, and after taking one last look at Nick... she left... she left for the other man.
