Shaken: Epilogue

YoSwtThang@aol.com

It's obvious the trouble we're in When your father pulls up in a Mercedes Benz He says he just happened to be in the neighborhood But before he leaves he slips the landlord the rent

You say, "It's just a question of eliminating obstacles" As you throw your dinner out the kitchen door You say, "I know how you try" But honey, let's eat out tonight

No one said it would be easy But no one said it'd be this hard No one said it would be easy No one thought we'd come this far

You can't seem to ever fold up a shirt I bring it up and you think I'm the jerk But I think we're here to stay I can't imagine it any other way

No one said it would be easy But no one said it'd be this hard No one said it would be easy No one thought we'd come this far

Sometimes I wonder who he's picturing When he looks at me... When he looks at me and smiles

No one said it would be easy But no one said it'd be this hard And no one said it would be easy No one thought we'd come this far

Oh, and look we've come this far

-No One Said It Would Be Easy, by Sheryl Crow

Nick and Natalie didn't have the perfect marriage... but they both knew that didn't exist. Even with Nick and Natalie's money put together, they'd had to sell the house that they'd loved, and move into a small apartment on the other side of the city. Even then they made it by just barely, watching what they spent, and what they spent their money on. It was hard, but they did it together, which made it easier. Nick loved Natalie much more than he'd ever loved anything in his life, and Nat felt the same way for him. There were times when Nick's temper would flare up again, and it was scare Natalie... what if things began to go back to how it had been before? But it never did, and Nick assured her that it never would. He watched the things that he said to her, or did to her, and never showed another sign of mental or physical abuse again. Natalie was, of course, glad for that. Sometimes you have to leave things, to change them.

We don't need a lot of money. We'll be sleeping on the beach, keeping oceans within reach. (Whatever private oceans we can conjure up for free.) I will stumble there with you and you'll be laughing close with me, trying not to make a scene. Etcetera. Whatever. I guess all I really mean... is we're gonna be alright. Yeah, we're gonna be alright. You can close your eyes tonight, 'cause we're gonna be alright.
