You stupid girl

-Stupid Girl, by Garbage (CD: self-titled)

Monstrosity ran into her house, her body shaking with emotion. Anger... she was so angry. She'd let him do this to her, she'd let him anger her--she'd let him get to her. How could she do this??

Tears that hadn't come since she was a little girl began to find their way down her ashen face. She couldn't believe she was crying. Looking at her reflection in the mirror in her hallway, she began to cry even harder. She was falling apart. She had let herself go, she had let herself be controlled by a man. She had fallen in love.

With one swift motion, she knocked the mirror off the wall, watching it crash down to the ground.

She let herself cry for hours and hours, sitting on the couch in the living room.

God, I feel like hell tonight Tears of rage I cannot fight I'd be the last to help you understand Are you strong enough to be my man?

Nothing's true and nothing's right So let me be alone tonight You can't change the way I am Are you strong enough to be my man?

Lie to me, I promise I'll believe Lie to me But please don't leave (Don't leave)

I have a face I cannot show I make the rules up as I go It's try and love me if you can Are you strong enough to be my man, my man?

Are you strong enough... to be my man? Are you strong enough... to be my man? Are you strong enough... my man

When I've shown you that I just don't care When I'm throwing punches in the air When I'm broken down and I can't stand Will you be man enough to be my man?

Lie to me, I promise I'll believe Lie to me But please don't leave

-Strong Enough, by Sheryl Crow (CD: Tuesday Night Music Club)

Three hours since she'd gotten home from the beach, Monstrosity stood from the couch and put her coat on. Grabbing her keys from the coffee table, she walked slowly to the front door and out to her car.

Nick opened the door thirty minutes later to find Monstrosity on his doorstep, her eyes swollen with tears, her hair tangled from the rain that had began to come down, and her clothes drenched. He sighed and pulled her into his house, surprised when she wrapped her arms securely around his waist, seeming to never want to let go.

Nick held her tight, before pulling away, saying that she needed to change her clothes or she'd get sick. "C'mmon, 'Stros... I'll take you upstairs and give you some of my clothes."

Monstrosity nodded against him, letting him lead her up the long staircase. "Thank you," she said as Nick handed her a pair of pajama bottoms and a T-shirt that would be far too big on her. But she didn't care.

"No problem... you can change in here, I'll be downstairs. Come down when you're done."

She nodded and watched as he left the room, closing the door behind him.

Fifteen minutes later Monstrosity walked tentatively down the staircase, stopping as she reached the bottom, watching Nick sitting on the couch. He was fiddling with his fingers, and seemed to look like he was deep in thought. She took a deep breath, feeling nervous, and walked into the living room, joining him on the couch in hesitation. Nick looked over at her and grabbed her hand gently in his. They stayed silent the rest of the night.
