What Would I Do: Chapter 2

YoSwtThang@aol.com

To this world I'm unimportant Just because I have nothing to give So you call this your free country Tell me why it costs so much to live Tell me why

This world can turn me down But I won't turn away, oh no I won't turn around

All my work and endless measures Never seem to get me very far Walk a mile just to move an inch Now even though I'm trying so d*mn hard I'm trying so hard

This world can turn me down But I won't turn away And I won't duck and run 'Cause I'm not built that way When everything is gone There is nothing there to fear This world cannot bring me down No, 'cause I am already here, oh no

I am already here, down On my knees I am already here, oh no I am already here I must have told you a thousand times I am not runnin' away

I won't duck and run I won't duck and run I won't duck and run No, I pass away

This world can turn me down I won't turn away And I won't duck and run 'Cause I'm not built that way When everything is gone There is nothing there to fear This world cannot bring me down No, 'cause I'm already here

This world can turn me down But I wont turn away And I won't duck and run 'Cause I'm not built that way When everything is gone There is nothing there to fear This world cannot bring me down No, 'cause I am already here

-Duck and Run, by 3 Doors Down (CD: The Better Life)

Nick felt the sweat drip down his body as he stepped into his beatdown apartment, and took his clothes off on his way to the bathroom. Getting in the shower, he finally felt good as the water cascaded over his worn out body. He was exhausted, and he'd had a horrible day... he knew that if just one more thing went wrong, he'd break down. And then the hot water ran out, and he was standing in the cold.

Quinn walked home from her small, dumpy office building, since her car was still in the shop. She wondered when that Nick guy would be done fixing it; she wondered how long it would be till the car broke down again, once she got it back.

She walked into her apartment, glad that the door opened easily - she had a feeling Bob had put some money into fixing it, this time, because it hadn't been giving her much trouble - she made a mental note to herself to go down and say thank you to him later.

Wanting to take a shower, she headed into the bathroom and turned the water on. She always stuck her hand under the faucet to check the temperature, as a habit. It was freezing cold so she turned the nozzel up farther, but the temperature didn't change.

"This is not happening!!!"

Nick jumped out of the water in a mad rage, wrapping a towel around his cold body and walking through the apartment on his way to his bedroom. Suddenly losing it, Nick picked up every item on the way and threw it across the apartment. He couldn't believe his life - he couldn't believe how he'd turned out.

Letting out a maddened scream, he picked up some dirty clothes off the floor and threw them on, before grabbing a duffel bag out of the closet and going into the bathroom to put the shampoo and conditioner in it. He grabbed his hairbrush and toothbrush, a bar of soap, a towel, and some extra clothes, placing them in the bag, too. He left the apartment, slamming the door behind him.

Nick wanted to cry, he wanted to scream, or punch something, or someone... but most of all, he didn't want to live anymore. Not like that.

Ay-yo... This song is dedicated To all the happy people All the happy people who have real nice lives And have no idea what it's like To be broke as f*ck...

...That's rock bottom - When this life makes you mad enough to kill That's rock bottom - When you want something bad enough to steal That's rock bottom - When you feel like you've had it up to here 'Cause you made enough to scream But you sad enough to tear...

-Rock Bottom, by Eminem (CD: The Slim Shady LP)
