My Path Through the Woods

My Path Through The Woods
The laughter of children fades
as I travel the path
Enveloped by the wood,
I make my way
past rotted stumps and hollow logs,
weaving between flickering shadows;
fallen leaves crushed beneath my feet.
I wander,
trailing this way and that
searching for the right path.
Beyond the broken tree,
I find the meadow.
A kaleidoscope of color
greets my eyes.
Daisies, small sunflowers, wild roses
blooming in mass profusion.
I slowly cross then kneel
near a cluster of buttercups.
Eyes closed, I lift my face,
feeling the warmth of the sun on my skin.
A shadow passes, blocking the warmth.
I open my eyes to find
a golden eagle circling above me.
A rustle of leaves
draws my eyes
A wolf sits and watches,
but I feel no fear.
There is peace
in the soft caress of sunlight;
there is peace
in the gentle whispers of the wind.
There is peace.
