“You Gave Me Everything”
Chapter 11
By: Tricia Kuchler © 1999
<<<<< *~* One Month Later *~* >>>>>
Mandy and Kevin hadn’t talked since that night. Sure, they had seen each other since they had mutual friends, but not a word was spoken. They glanced at each other frequently but both felt too much pain to even go over and say a simple hi. It was a different pain for each of them, and the other couldn’t understand why.
<<<<< *~* >>>>>
“Hey,” AJ said, greeting Mandy at his front door. “What’s wrong?” AJ asked. “Um, I don’t know how this happened,” Mandy told him. She couldn’t look AJ in the eye and that’s how AJ knew something was very wrong.
“Come’ere, Manda Bear, tell me what’s wrong,” AJ said, putting his arms around her and moving her into the house. They sat down on the couch. “Now, babe, what is it?” AJ asked, once more, but this time whispering.
“Well, I went to the doctors today,” Mandy said. “Yeah, and, what’s wrong?” AJ asked. “I’m…I’m…” Mandy started crying. “What cutie, come on, don’t cry,” AJ told her. “I’m pregnant,” Mandy choked out. AJ took a deep breath. “And its Kevin’s, isn’t it?” AJ asked. “Yeah, there’s no one else, and I mean no one who it could be,” Mandy told him.
<<<<< *~* Two hours later *~* >>>>>
Mandy had calmed down by now and was talking normal. “So what’re you going to do?” AJ asked. “I don’t know. I have to tell him. If I ever kept this from him there’s no way he would ever forgive me,” Mandy told him. “Well, I agree, Mands, I mean, I think you should tell him. I honestly don’t know how he is going to respond though. I mean, you two haven’t talked in a little over a month. I think you should try to work things out,” AJ said. Mandy nodded. “Do you think he still has feelings for me?” Mandy asked. “I don’t know. I really think so. But I’m not sure. By the way he looks out you now, I think he still loves you. But you need to ask him that for yourself,” AJ told her. “Thanks AJ, for all of this. I really appreciate it,” Mandy said. “No problem. Now go, talk to him, ok?” AJ asked. Mandy nodded.
<<<<< *~* >>>>>
Mandy got in her car and drove around for a long time, just driving and wandering around. She ended up at a familiar place. It was their spot, in the park. She sat on the rock, carefully and stared out at the water.
Then she remembered what Kevin had told her that night. That sometimes he had seen her from across the lake when she would be sitting there. She peered across the lake, but didn’t see him. Her hope sank from her heart. But then she knew that she had to go to him. This wasn’t up to him; it was up to her.
<<<<< *~* >>>>>
She looked up at Kevin’s house and sighed. She rubbed her stomach. She wasn’t showing yet but she knew there was a baby inside her. It just wasn’t obvious to the world yet.
She climbed up Kevin’s step and stared at the front door for a couple of minutes. She rang the doorbell and a minute later, Kevin appeared at the front door. “Kevin, I know we haven’t talked in a while, but…” Mandy started. Kevin interrupted her with a kiss. When they pulled away neither knew why that had happened. “I’m, I’m sorry,” Kevin said. “No, it was nice,” Mandy told him. The look in Kevin’s bright green eyes said it all. He was happy. “But we need to talk about something else,” Mandy said. Kevin looked at her, a little confused. “It has to do with that night. Just let me tell you, it’s not that I’m mad,” Mandy told him. “Ok, well come in, and we can talk,” Kevin said, stepping out of the doorway.

“So, what’s up?” Kevin asked, handing her a glass of soda. Mandy took a deep breath. “Is something wrong?” Kevin asked. “Well, I don’t know. To me, no, nothing is wrong at all. But I don’t know how you are going to react,” Mandy said. “Well, just say it and we’ll deal with it,” Kevin told her. “Ok, well, Kevin. That night, we did share something very special. And it did mean a lot to me, whether or not I showed that or not. Kevin, what I’m trying to say is that… Kevin, I’m pregnant,” Mandy told him.
Kevin sat there, shock on his face. He was happy inside, but his exterior wasn’t showing it. He was happy that Mandy was having his baby. She was the only woman he would want to do that.
“Kevin, what’re you thinking?” Mandy asked, a little scared. “No, no, it’s not that,” Kevin said, noticing the worry evident in Mandy’s voice. “So, you’re happy?” Mandy asked. “Extremely. I mean, yeah, it kinda came out of nowhere, but I’m happy. I love you, Amanda,” Kevin told her. Mandy’s eyes swelled with tears. “I love you too,” Mandy told him. Kevin gave her a hug and then placed a hand on her stomach.
“Baby, whoever is in here, I promise to work harder with your mom. She means the world to me and I was stupid before, but not anymore,” Kevin whispered. He then leaned down and kissed Mandy’s stomach softly. “Aww Kevvy,” Mandy said. Kevin looked up at her and smiled. His eyes shone so bright. Mandy could tell how happy he really was.
“So, when are we going to tell everyone?” Kevin asked. “Well, AJ already knows. I sorta needed to talk to someone and I didn’t know what to do, so I talked to him,” Mandy told him. “Ok, well, why don’t we call everybody and have them come over. And then we can tell them now,” Kevin said. “Ok, do you want to call, or me?” Mandy asked. “I will,” Kevin said. “Why don’t you rest a little. You’ve been through a lot in the last couple of weeks,” Kevin told her. “Yeah, alright. Thank you,” Mandy said, kissing his lips softly. “You’re welcome,” Kevin said, getting up and picking up the phone.
<<<<< *~* >>>>>
“So, what’s this all about?” Brian asked, once everyone had arrived. Mandy looked at Kevin. “Well, we have an announcement to make,” Kevin said. Mandy looked over to AJ. AJ smiled and nodded. “Let me guess, you guys are back together?” Claire asked. “Well, yeah, but there’s something else,” Mandy said. “I know what it is, and you don’t,” AJ teased. Kevin laughed a little. “Ok, well, we’re having a baby,” Kevin said.
Mandy and Kevin waited for the ‘I can’t believe you are throwing your life away’ reactions but they never came. “Aww, guys, you are going to have the most beautiful baby!” Allison told them, giving them each a hug. “If you ever need a babysitter, I’m here,” Marissa said. “Uh-oh Rok, looks like someone else wants a little one,” Nick teased. Marissa shot him a look. Brian smiled at Marissa.
After a while, they all sat around, waiting for the pizza they ordered to be delivered. “So, do you want a boy or a girl?” Casey asked. “It doesn’t really matter,” Mandy said. “Aww, come on, you know you want one or the other,” Brian teased. “Well, I don’t know. For a first one, a boy,” Kevin said, beaming with pride. “Hey, and if ya need any names, Brian is a real nice one,” Brian told them, causing everyone to laugh. “I don’t know. A girl might be nice too,” Mandy said. “Yeah, but a boy would be cool cause then if he ever gets a sister, then well, he can stick up for her and all,” Kevin told her. “Yeah, that’s true,” Mandy said. Kevin kissed her forehead.
“This feels so right. Everything is just how it’s supposed to be. I love him so much and this baby is just going to be such a wonderful addition to both of our lives,” Mandy thought. What she didn’t know was that Kevin was thinking the exact same thing.

<<<<< *~* Three Months Later *~* >>>>>
Kevin woke up and looked next to him. Mandy was sleeping peacefully. About a month ago they had moved in together. They had been seeing each other again for about two months. Not necessarily for the baby, but for themselves. Yes, they wanted the baby to have a stable family, but also, they wanted to have a stable relationship for once.
“One thing I’m sure of, is that we will always be, even though the road seems to get a little rough. It’s for you I live, I can do anything and it will never be too much.” (98 Degrees, Hand In Hand)
Kevin smiled as he looked at Mandy’s stomach. She was now showing. Only a little, but still. He never could have told anyone that he would feel like this. That his whole world would change, just knowing that he had created something so wonderful. It just touched his heart.
“If I had castles built on high, I’d find a million ways to write your name against the sky, just to let you know you’ve caught my eye. And if I had more than wealth could buy, I’d sell it all and start again for just a chance with you. Girl, I’d give my all to win your love.” (98 Degrees, Take My Breath Away)
And as for Mandy, he owed his life to her. He loved her with his whole heart and soul, and he always had. But now, he loved her in another way too. She was going to be the mother of his child. And that was something that not just anyone could do. That was something that was special.
“Not a day goes by that I don’t thank God for you. He blessed me with an angel, though I don’t deserve you. Until I found you girl, Lonely was my best friend. Now that you are in my life, I am stronger within.” (98 Degrees, Heaven’s Missing An Angel)
Mandy started to stir a little. She slowly opened her eyes and looked up and Kevin. “Good morning. Have you been up long?” Mandy asked. “No, not really. I was just thinking,” Kevin told her. “About what?” Mandy asked, cracking a smile. “You, the baby, me, everything,” Kevin said. He kissed Mandy’s forehead. “I love you,” Kevin told her. “I love you too, Kevvy,” Mandy said, placing a soft kiss on Kevin’s lips. “I’m gonna go get in the shower, ok?” Kevin asked. “Ok, sounds good,” Mandy said. They both got up. Mandy going downstairs and Kevin going into the bathroom.
<<<<< *~* >>>>>
Mandy went into the kitchen and started to pull things out for breakfast. She began to cook as her mind wandered to Kevin. Those eyes. So fierce, yet so gentle. So full of love. Kevin was strong, but soft. He was tough, yet loving on the inside.
He was a man. He was everything Mandy needed. He was her life. He was her security. And he was her love.
“Baby, baby to me you’re everything. It’s just the love and joy that you bring. No one can take the place I’ve given you.” (98 Degrees, To Me You’re Everything)
She glanced down at her stomach and smiled. This baby was such a blessing. Kevin was such a blessing. Mandy felt as if everything in her world was just perfect. It was her one moment in time, when everyone was safe and everyone was okay.
<<<<< *~* >>>>>
“Hey sweetie,” Kevin said, coming into the kitchen, his nose leading him. “Hey,” Mandy said. “What’s all this, babe?” Kevin asked. “Ahh nothing. I just felt like doing something for you. And I was hungry,” Mandy said. Kevin laughed a little. “Well, thank you, darlin. Cause I sure am hungry too,” Kevin said, with a think southern drawl. Mandy giggled. Kevin kissed her forehead and then went to the counter to fix his plate.
<<<<< *~* Later In The Day *~* >>>>>
“Hey, Marissa,” Mandy said as she went into Marissa and Brian’s house. “Hey Mands, so how’s Kevin?” Marissa asked. “So good. I’m good. The baby’s good. How’re you and Bri-Bri?” Mandy asked. “Well, we’re awesome too. You sound as if you are the happiest girl in the world,” Marissa said. “I am,” Mandy said.
<<<<< *~* >>>>>
“I heard about how wonderful love can be. But in my mind, I never could have dreamed such a fantasy. Maybe it’s destiny.” (Aaron Carter, Tell Me How To Make You Smile)

Chapter 14

Mandy and Kevin were on their way to AJ and Allison’s house. They were having a small get together. All Mandy knew was that they were hanging out, however, it was actually for a baby shower. Kevin smiled as they neared AJ’s house.
“Why’re you so happy?” Mandy asked him. Kevin had been happy for the last couple months, but this was a little unusual even. Kevin looked over at her. “No reason,” he lied. “Something, Richardson, and you better tell me,” Mandy said. “Nope, not gonna do it,” Kevin said. “Come on,” Mandy whined. “No, you’ll find out soon, baby,” Kevin told her, stealing a kiss at the red light.
<<<<< *~* >>>>>
“Ready to go in?” Kevin asked. “Yeah, let’s go,” Mandy said. Kevin opened the door and stepped aside, letting Mandy walk in first. Mandy’s head had been down when Kevin opened the door. She lifted her head, and put her hand over her mouth.
“Oh my god, guys!” Mandy said. AJ’s whole living room was decorated with pink and blue baby decorations. “Surprise,” everyone yelled. “Thank you,” Mandy said, still looking around. “No problem, sweetie. You deserve it,” AJ said, coming over to her and giving her a kiss on the cheek. “Yeah darlin, it’s all for you,” Howie said, giving her a hug. Mandy smiled. “I seriously don’t know what to say. Guys, this is too much,” Mandy said. Kevin rolled his eyes. “Sweetie, stop being so sweet. They wanted to do this. Plus, this is all for us, now we don’t have to buy some things ourselves,” Kevin said, laughter in his voice at the last comment. “Well, thank you,” Mandy said, looking around the room at all of her friends.
“Well, come on, girl. Open your presents,” Marissa said, handing her the first one.
<<<<< *~* Kevin and Mandy’s house *~* >>>>>
“That was amazing,” Mandy said, sitting down on the couch in their living room. “Yeah, it was,” Kevin said. He kissed Mandy’s lips softly. “Kev, do you think the baby is going to be a boy or a girl?” Mandy asked. “I don’t know, babe. What do you think?” Kevin asked. “I don’t know. I mean, it doesn’t really matter, but either way, ya know, I already love this little guy,” Mandy said. “So do I,” Kevin said.
“Wanna talk about names?” Mandy asked as Kevin kissed her stomach. “Ok, girl names first,” Kevin said. “Ok, hmm,” Mandy said, beginning to think. “Well, this is what I like: Michelle, Brianna, Kristen, Caitlin, and Kylie,” Kevin told her. “Ok, well out of them, I like Kristen the best,” Mandy said. “Ok, you like Kristen, do we want to decide on that?” Kevin asked. “Yeah, but we need a middle name too,” Mandy said. “Ok Kristen Ann?” Kevin asked. “Yeah, Ann after your mom,” Mandy said.
“Ok, boys…” Mandy said. “Well, I picked the girl’s, you do the boys,” Kevin said. “Alright. Well, I like a lot of boys names, so bare with me. I like Jeffrey, Noah, Thomas, Brandon, and Alexander,” Mandy told him. “Well, I like Brandon Thomas,” Kevin said. “Ok, I like that too,” Mandy said. “Well, that was easy, for once we didn’t fight,” Kevin said.
“Hey, we don’t always fight,” Mandy said. “I know, I didn’t mean it like that,” Kevin told her. “Well, maybe you just aren’t happy,” Mandy said. Kevin knew the mood swings were kicking in now. “Hunny, I’m very happy. Come on, I didn’t mean it like that,” Kevin told her. “Whatever Kevin, leave me alone,” Mandy said, going upstairs and locking herself in the bathroom.
Kevin rubbed his hands through his hair. “It’s gonna be a long night,” Kevin said to himself as he started his trek upstairs.
<<<<< *~* >>>>>
Mandy was crying. She didn’t know why she had gone upstairs. Her emotions were all mixed up. There was a knock on the door and she lifted her head up, wiping her tears away.
“Baby, baby, it’s ok. Come on, let me in,” Kevin pleaded. Mandy sighed. She got up and went to the door. She unlocked it and opened it, falling into Kevin’s arms.
“I’m sorry Kevin. I’m just overtaken with all these emotions,” Mandy started. “Baby, it’s ok. I understand. Come on, why don’t you go to bed,” Kevin suggested, leading her down the hall to their bedroom.
He laid her down and tucked her in. She had already changed so he didn’t have to worry about that. “Are you ok, Manda?” Kevin asked as he kissed her cheek. Mandy shook her head. “Can you stay with me?” Mandy asked. “Of course,” Kevin said. He stripped down to his boxers and got into bed next to her. He pulled her close and they fell asleep in each other’s arms.

“You Gave Me Everything”
Chapter 15

Kevin woke up the next morning and couldn’t take the smile off his face. Mandy was asleep in his arms. His world was at peace. And he loved everything about it. He couldn’t wait to be a father. Sure, he wasn’t ready for it. But was anyone every really ready? He didn’t think so. He was ready now, but not at the time when she told him. He embraced it though because that’s how Kevin was. He knew he couldn’t change things and frankly he didn’t want to.
Mandy stirred and looked up at Kevin. She moved up a little and kissed Kevin’s neck. Kevin’s smile grew. “Good morning to you too sweetie,” Kevin said. Mandy smiled. “Morning. Thanks for holding me all night,” Mandy said. “Hey, it was my pleasure,” Kevin said.
“What are your plans today?” Mandy asked. “Me and the guys have a photo shoot to do for some magazine. I think they’re doing an article too. So I might be gone all day,” Kevin told her. “Oh ok. I think Marissa and I are gonna do some baby shopping,” Mandy said. “More? What else does the baby need?” Kevin asked. “Well, Kevin, the baby has to live. He or she needs more clothes and bottles and toys,” Mandy told him. “Oh, I didn’t even really think about all that,” Kevin said. He gave Mandy a kiss. “I should really get going. I have to pick up Brian,” Kevin said. “Okie dokie. See ya later,” Mandy told him. “Call me on my cell if you need anything,” Kevin told her. “Ok, I will. And if I get your voice mail that means you’re being interviewed. See, I know,” Mandy said. Kevin smiled at her and kissed her again.
<<<<< *~* Kevin and The Guys *~* >>>>>
The guys were doing group shots and they were goofing around, jumping on each other and such. They were having a good time. Since they all had girlfriends, their time together was more numbered than it was a few years ago. It made them treasure their “alone” time even more.
“So Kev, how are things at home?” Brian asked. “Good, real good,” Kevin said as they all sat down now that the group session was over. They had all been through the single shots already and now they were waiting for People Magazine’s editor.
“How’s everybody else doing?” Kevin asked. “Good,” Brian said with a smile. The guys all looked around. “What’re you up to Bri?” Nick asked. “What do you mean?” Brian asked. “Ah nothing, you just look really happy, that’s all,” AJ said. “Well, I am happy. I love Marissa more than anything and she loves me,” Brian said. “For some reason, I think there’s something more there,” Howie inquired. “Well, I’m kinda thinking of asking her to marry me, but I’m still thinking. And I want to do it at the right time and all,” Brian said.
“Ya know, honestly, I’ve been thinking about that too,” Kevin said. “Really?” AJ asked. “Yeah, I mean, if you know you truly love the girl and all there should be no questions, right? You should just know that she is the one. And Mandy is the one for me. I know that. I know nothing else is going to come along. And I don’t want anything else to come along. With her and the baby, and you guys of course, everything in my life is perfect,” Kevin explained. “I know what you mean,” Brian told them. “Wow, I hope I feel that strongly about Claire someday,” Nick said. “Well, you just started going out with Claire not too long ago. I feel like that, but not as strong, not yet,” AJ said. “Do you love Claire, Nick?” Howie asked. “Yeah I think so,” Nick said. “Have you told her?” AJ asked. “No, I don’t know how,” Nick stated. They were all slightly amused at Nick’s insecurities. “You just say it, man,” Brian said. “But you have to mean it,” Kevin added. “I know,” Nick said. “I’m not stupid,” Nick told them. “Yeah ya are,” Brian said. “No, I’m not,” Nick said. “Yeah ya are,” Brian said, getting up and running in the opposite direction. Nick got up and chased after him.
<<<<< *~* Mandy and Marissa *~* >>>>>
“So, have you felt the baby kick yet?” Marissa asked. “Yeah a few times, but it’s not that strong yet. The doctor said as the few more months go on, it’ll get stronger,” Mandy explained. “That must be the most amazing feeling,” Marissa said. “It is. It’s almost indescribable. I mean, to have someone you created living inside you. It’s breath taking,” Mandy said. “It must be,” Marissa said. “Do you want kids?” Mandy asked. “Yeah, so does Brian. But I want to be married first and all,” Marissa said. “Yeah, I always thought that too. But if Kevin isn’t ready, I don’t want to rush him, ya know,” Mandy said. “Yeah, oh I didn’t mean it like that. I just meant for me ya know what I mean?” Marissa asked. “Yeah, I wasn’t offended by it. It’s ok!” Mandy reassured her.
