CHAPTER 1
In June my mom had to go on a business trip so I offered to take care of my little brother for her. Even
though he was a bit younger than me, we were close as ever. I helped my mom take care of him alot and I
actually didn't mind one bit.
I picked him up on his last day of school in the late morning and we decided to do a little bit of roller
blading. I drove a few miles west of where we live to go skate in the parking lot of the Pontiac Silverdome.
Jordan and I were blasting the radio and singing along to the music with the top down on my car as we
pulled into the gas station to get a few bottles of water and noticed a huge bus taking up most of the area
around us. I maneuvered my car around it as I came to a stop. Jordan ran in to get the water as I leaned my
head back, turned down the radio and closed my eyes waiting for him. Like that lasted long.
"Excuse me ma'am." a man with a burley voice said.
I about jumped out of my skin, seeings as it wasn't in the best neighborhood around. I sat up as he knelt
down beside my car.
"Uh...can I help you?" I asked.
"I sure hope so. I am the driver of that bus over there and this is my first time in this area. Could you point
me in the direction of the Silverdome and tell me where the East entrance is?" he asked with a smile.
"Actually, I can do better than that. My brother and I were just on our way over there to go blading, why
don't you follow us." I said as I started my car.
"Thanks sweetheart, we owe you one." he said as he handed me a pass of some sort.
"When you get to the entrance, just show them this and they'll know you're with us." he said as he started
off to the bus.
I handed Jordan the pass as I proceeded to make a left out of the gas station thanking the Lord that traffic
was light. Jordan cranked up the radio again and we were off. About 10 minutes later we pulled into the
Silverdome entrance and Jordan flashed the pass to the guard as she waved up on into the parking lot. I
drove around to the East entrance as I turned down the music.
"Hey Jordy, you happen to know what's goin' on here tonight?" I asked my brother as I attached the pass to
my rearview mirror.
"Nope, ya got me sis, but there sure alot of trucks and buses here." he said as he put on his rollerblades.
I was putting on my blades when the bus driver came over to me. "Ma'am, thank you again for your help."
he said as he held out his hand.
"No problem whatsoever, glad to help you out. And please call me Justyce." I said as I stood up and shook
his hand.
"Here Justyce, a little bit of roller blading music for ya." he said with a smile as he went back to the bus.
I turned the tape over and smiled. "Hey Jordy, wanna blade to a bit of *NSYNC?" I asked him.
"
SWEET!!! Yeah, crank it." he said.
I popped the tape into my system, turned on the amp and boosters and cranked the volume. Thankfully,
security knew us pretty well there and always gave us full run of the Dome when there wasn't an event going
on. I loved to blade in the summertime and ice skate in the winter. I had been ice skating since I was 5, so I
wasn't that bad, I must say.
"Hey Justy, we need to grab some cones." Jordan said as he pointed to a bunch of orange cones in the back
of an open semi.
I grinned at him as I started my way over there. He caught on and took off after me. "Last one there sucks
monkey balls!" he exclaimed as I came to a quick halt staring at him with my jaw dropped open.
"
HEY! Where'd you learn to talk like that kiddo?" I asked in shock as I noticed him getting closer to
the truck.
"Ugh, to hell with this." I thought as I took off hot on his heels.
Little did we know, we had an audience watching our every move and hearing our every word.
Jordan and I grabbed the cones and set them up as quick as possible. We spent some time goofing off until
"This I Promise You" came blaring through the speakers. I proceeded to try to do an old ice skating
routine on my blades to the song. At the end of the song, I crossed my fingers as I did a double axle and
then a back flip. From what I gathered, with all the applause, I did pretty good but it startled me and I
almost fell flat on my butt.
"Where in
the hell did you learn that girl?!" one guy with his hair in corn rolls asked.
Jordan skated over to my car and turned down the music. I squinted my eyes from the sunlight as I looked
upto the guy who spoke to me. "I've been skating for about 17 years Justin." I said as I started picking up
the cones.
"Whoa, how'd you know my name?" he asked.
"Well, your face is on the cover of the tape that your bus driver handed to me earlier goofy boy. As so are
the rest of the guys standing behind you." I said as I handed Jordan the cones to put back on the truck.
"So, I take it you're not a fan?" the one with the spiky hair asked.
"Well Lance, yeah, I'm a fan. But I don't go nuts, I'm not a teenybopper and I have respect for privacy and it
seems that y'all are normal as anyone else is." I said as I skated around them slowly.
One of the other guys was putting on a pair of roller blades and gave me an odd look. "Who's the kid with
you?" he asked.
Jordan skated back over to all of us and stood next to me. "Well, Chris, Joey, J.C., Lance and Justin, I
would like you to meet my little brother, Jordan. Jordan, meet *NSYNC." I said as they all shook his
hand.
Seconds after that, Jordan got an evil look upon his face and took off towards the entrance doors. I caught
on and grinned as I looked to all of the guys. "Well all, as my brother said, last one there sucks monkey
balls." I said with a laugh as I broke away at break neck speed after my brother.
"
HEY! That's not fair!" yelled Chris as he came after us, leaving the guys to follow us on foot.
I made it down to the doors and jumped over the turnstiles as I high fived the head of security, Jerry. As
soon as I got in the doors I heard a crash and turned around to see Chris all twisted up. I couldn't help but
to bust out laughing at him. "Um..have a slight problem there Chris?" I asked though my laughter.
He smirked as he stood up and brushed himself off. "I didn't jump high enough and the bar attacked me for
doing such a dumbass move." he said.
I leaned over and patted him on the shoulder. "That's ok, not everyone can clear it on their first try
brainiac." I said as I went back through the open door.
"That's it girlie, your ass is mine." he said as he came after me.
I laughed as I started down the stairs to the main floor. "But Christopher, you already have an ass of your
own, why would ya want two? I know!! so you can make a double ass out of yourself, right?!!?" I
exclaimed as I jumped up and skimmed the rail.
"Man, I think you've met your match for sarcasm." Lance said as the rest of the guys caught upto Chris and
Jordan.
"She'll beat ya down like a red headed step-child man, watch out for her." Jordan said as he started down the
steps after her.
Chris grinned and shook his head, agreeing with the guys and Jordan on what they advised him. At that
point, they all knew she would become a lifelong friend of theirs, no matter how sarcastic she could get. She
was a keeper.
