I jumped from the Hanson couch as my boyfriend and his younger brother stormed in.
"Come on, give me one more chance Tay!" Zac whined as he followed after him.
"No way," Taylor shook his head. "You backed over the orange cone, ran the stop sign, and almost his a tree. Uh-uh. I want to live to 20!"
"Give me a break!" Zac exclaimed. "It's my first day!"
"I wasn't even that bad!"
"What's going on?" I asked, stepping between the feuding brothers.
"Taylor won't take me driving!"
I turned to my boyfriend. "Now, Taylor, be a good brother and take him driving."
"No way! He almost killed me!"
"You make me nervous!"
"Let Isaac take you then," Taylor said stubbornly.
"I know he won't."
"Looks like you'll be riding the bus."
"Awww, man!"
I scowled and looked over at Taylor disapprovingly. "Come on, Zac," I said and put my arm around his shoulder. "Let's go drive."
"I knew I loved you for some reason," he smiled.
"I'm not letting you do this," Taylor said and stuffed his car keys in his pocket. "He's not a good enough driver to have you ride with him."
"Oh, but it's OK for you to ride with him?" I countered. Taylor frowned. "Baby, we'll be fine," I told him and kissed his cheek. "We'll be back in an hour."
"We get to drive an hour?!" Zac exclaimed. "I was lucky to get 20 minutes out of Tay!"
I laughed and chunked him the keys. "Go crank the car." I watched as he smiled and skipped to the car. It was hard to believe that this was the same boy that, four years ago, put snakes in my bed when we were on tour and I was the babysitter. If it weren't for his blabbing about Taylor liking me 6 months ago, Taylor and I probably wouldn't be together today. It seems that everyone is oblivious to the passing of time until they see someone that was once little, but now taller and older. Zac is taller than I am! "Huh?" I asked, snapping from my thoughts as I heard Taylor's voice.
"Where are you taking him?"
"Out to the park, down by the airport, and probably through downtown."
"OK," he sighed. "His weakness is backing up. He doesn't use his mirrors and never checks over his shoulder."
"Gotcha," I replied. "He has his permit, right?"
"Right."
"Good. See you in an hour."
"Natalie, please be careful."
"I will," I assured him before running outside. I climbed into the passengers seat and said, "Let's go." If only I had known what I was in for.
