Chapter 10

"IIIIIIIII HHHHHAAAAATTTTTEEEEEE YYYYYYYOOOOOOOUUUUUUU!" shrieked Candy, her hands griping the rail in front of her tightly. Katina and Mina looked at each other and grinned. "I just wanted to go shopping!" she wailed pitifully. "I wanna go to the mall!"

"This is the first time, I’ve ever heard her say something without it being a question," Katina told Mina.

"I wonder if she’ll keep up with talking like a normal person, or if she’ll go back to asking instead," Mina said. They both looked at each other with raised eyebrows.

"No chance," Katina remarked.

When the ride slowed to a stop, Mina and Katina yelled "One more time!" and glanced at Candy’s face. It became deathly pale, and she looked like she was about to throw up.

Candy hung her head low, and mumbled something, and Mina and Katina laughed. Jamie looked at the Playmate sympathetically, and shook her head.

"You guys?" Jamie said as they got out of their seats. "No more rollercoasters. We don’t want to kill her do we?"

Mina pulled her shirt over her stomach, and stretched. "Yea, sure. We don’t want Joey to injure us do we?"

"Oh yea," Katina smirked. "Like he could really do anything to even hurt us? We’d kick his pansy ass in no time."

Jamie rolled her eyes, and made a face. "Yea, but then . . . oh hell. I don’t know. Dad probably wouldn’t give a shit anyway." She laughed quietly. "What do we do next?"

"The mall?" Candy asked brightly, standing up from the bench behind them.

"No surprise there," Mina said, as they all looked at her. "Just on one condition. No shopping for clothes."

"Oh, I don’t know?" Candy started.

"There goes our hope for her talking normally," Mina said under her breath.

Candy fixed her with a glare, and finished what she was saying. "Since you made me do this, I think I’ll make you do that? Yes?" She nodded her head firmly.

Candy grabbed Jamie’s arm, and led her to the exit of the amusement park, leaving Mina and Katina behind.

Katina watched them walk away, and turned to Mina. "Do you seriously think we should have let the guys do it?" she asked.

Mina shrugged, and started following Candy and Jamie. She wondered what they were talking about. "I don’t know."

"They’re going to find some way to fuck it up. I know. I can just see it now. Chris accidentally orders a stripper, and -"

"Calm down." Mina pulled her hair back off of her shoulders, and eyed a cotton candy stand hungrily. "I’m sure that it’ll all be good. I know my baby. He wouldn’t fuck it up."

"How are you so sure?" Katina asked.

"You worry way too much girl," Mina remarked. She smiled. "He wouldn’t fuck it up because then he’d have me to deal with." She glanced over at her friend. "And I know Justin wouldn’t want that."

"Who was that?" Justin asked, as JC clicked his cell phone off.

JC snorted as he got off of the ladder, and threw the tape in his hand at Chris, who sat on the couch. Chris looked at JC annoyed, and fixed his attention back to the football game on TV. "Who do you think? It was Kat, making sure that we were doing okay," JC answered.

"Do they not trust us at all?" Justin asked, looking around the partially decorated living room. He gave his attention to the banner that JC had just hung up. "It’s crooked," he pointed out.

"Shut up." JC ran a hand through his hair, and sighed. "No, of course they don’t trust us. Not with this kind of crap." He glanced around the room himself, and said, "I think we’re not doing a half bad job. What do you think?"

Justin opened his mouth to reply, and there was a crash from the kitchen.

"Awww, shit!" Joey whined.

JC and Justin looked at each other, and made their way into the kitchen to see Joey surrounded by a floor full of food. They heard Chris start laughing in the other room, and turned around to see the carefully placed "Happy Baby Shower Jamie" sign on the floor.

"I wonder if they’ll trust us to do anything after this," Justin told JC.

"I still can’t believe you guys are already tired," Jamie commented as she walked up the steps to her house.

"Oh, well, it’s being pregnant," Mina lied. She stifled a laugh, as Jamie snorted.

"Yeah, right. That’s a weak excuse," Jamie told her. She got her keys out, and fit one of them in the lock. She turned around and raised her eyebrows. "I didn’t even get tired until my . . . until last month." She unlocked the door, and Katina crossed her fingers.

"Don’t you trust the guys at all?" Mina asked, seeing her nervousness.

"Trust is a very funny word," Katina replied. She peered into the living room as Jamie walked in.
