When the car stopped, I was blindfolded. Chris had climbed over the back of his seat and tied a necktie over my eyes. I heard him open the door and he began to shove me out of the car. "Get out!!!" Chris yelled at the top of his lungs, "Get out before I have to get violent!" "Joey, can YOU tell me what's going on here?" I pleaded, laughing as Chris pushed me out of the car and slammed the door behind me. "Sorry," Joey said with a chuckle, "I just drive the getaway car." Suddenly, I heard the sounds of the car driving away. "Chris?" I asked, feeling around blindly for him. A hand took hold of mine, and gently pulled me forward. I followed, scared to death that I was going to fall flat on my face. The person leading me directed me up an incline, and then supported my arm as they directed me to sit. Suddenly, gentle hands reached forward and lifted the blindfold off my eyes. Lance sat before me, the fading sunlight catching his eyes, and giving them an almost eerie glow. I smiled softly, feeling my cheeks getting warm from blushing.
Lance held me in his arms as we watched the sunset. We kissed passionately for a long time beneath the stars. We fed one another strawberries, and sipped champagne while staring into one another's eyes.
We cuddled in the grass, and talked in hushed voices about life, our dreams, and our future together.
It was well after midnight when he finally got around to taking me home. Not that I EVER wanted that night to end.
"Did you enjoy the evening?" He asked me in his quiet southern drawl.
I reached up and ran my fingers through his blonde hair, and sighed.
He smiled, chuckling softly, "I suppose that's a yes."
I lay my head against his chest, and he held me close.
"It was the most wonderful night of my life, Lance, thank you."
He reached down and tilted my face up toward his so he could lay a kiss on my lips. I kissed him back, wrapping my arms around his neck.
Before I opened the door, I stood for a moment; just staring into his eyes. Drinking in the beauty of him. Wanting to never let him walk away from me.
"I'll see you tomorrow, Princess." He whispered.
"Okay." I said, running my finger over his lips.
"Goodnight." He said, kissing me again quickly.
I watched him down the steps and to his car. And then stood on the porch watching as he drove down the street.
Once the headlights had disappeared around the corner, I opened the door in a dreamy haze, and went into my roomfloating on a cloud.
"There was an accident" Casey said, tears dripping off her chin onto my hand as she clutched it to her chest.
"An accident?" I choked.
She nodded gravely, "The car was crushed, Liz..." She stopped and stared straight ahead as she went on, "He didn't have a chance."
"Wow!" I exclaimed, looking at the beautiful red sports car before me.
"Yeah!" Lance beamed, "Isn't it awesome?"
"Some graduation present!" I said, running my hand over the shiny red steel, and admiring the black leather interior and convertible top.
"I couldn't believe it!" He said, his gorgeous face glowing with pride.
"Do I get a ride?" I asked, putting my arms around his neck.
"Of course!" he said, opening the door for me.
The wind played games with his hair-And the sunlight bounced off his sunglasses, and illuminated the smile that was shining as bright as the new car's exterior.
He turned up the radio, and reached over to take my hand in his. I wrapped my fingers around his, and closed my eyes, allowing the speed of the new car to overtake my senses.
