Nate Cole of Plus One called WJIE July 25th! I talked with him about the group's upcoming concerts in Radcliff and Louisville, and a few other happenings as well.
"It's a blessing. It's crazy. It doesn't feel totally real yet", Nate said, commenting on the fact that the group's first single went to #1 on the adult contemporary Christian charts and stayed there for three weeks. In addition to a free outdoor concert in Radcliff, the group is scheduled to appear with Jaci Velasquez August 21st at Cardinal Stadium. The group is touring with Velasquez throughout the fall, and according to Cole, the tour is "supposed to be pretty amazing." He told me the group will sing for about 30 minutes, in the middle of the show. Velasquez will open the concert, leave in the middle and return after that. The group will sing back-up for her as well. Though the Velasquez tour is the group's first, Plus One have already sung at major festivals around the country including AtlantaFest, and more recently, Spirit West. So how are the festival gigs going? "It's awesome to know people are enjoying the music. Just because it's so fresh, what we're doing in Christian music. It's real new, and I think a lot of people were looking for it before we came out, so people are already excited about what's going on." Cole went on to tell me the group's next single "looks like" it will be "God Is In This Place", which is his "favorite right now" off the album. He also told me the group just returned from L.A. where they shot a few scenes for an episode of the soap opera "Days of our Lives". Though he realizes "some Christians are against soap operas", the group couldn't turn down the opportunity. The episode deals with Habitat for Humanity (who recommended the group to the producers of the show). The group sings "Written On My Heart" on the show. He went on to say that the group's mission was to be salt and light and to take the message of Christ's hope and love to the world, even in places "where it's not usually spoken". We went on to talk about other examples of that, such as Rachael Lampa's scheduled appearance on "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" and Christian hard rocker's P.O.D. 's presence on MTV. The episode of "Days" is scheduled to air August 15th. Cole went on to say he was "excited" about coming to Louisville August 21 and that he hoped it was packed. Me too!! Hope to see you there!
