Left Behind To Hit The Movie Screen and Your CD Player (JUL 12, 2000)

Millions of copies of the books from the "Left Behind" series have been sold and the series, which looks at the rapture and the years that follow, has a large following that waits for the first-day release of each book. "The Indwelling," the seventh book in the 12-book saga, recently became the first Christian book to ever reach the No. 1 spot on the coveted New York Times best-sellers list.
Reunion Records will release a movie soundtrack CD while Cloud Ten will release the "Left Behind" video and big-screen movie. The announcement was made Monday at a New Orleans press conference during the annual Christian Booksellers Association convention.
"Left Behind: The Soundtrack is one of the most exciting records of the year on the Reunion label," says George King, Sr. Vice President/General Manager of Reunion Records. "This once in a lifetime recording has created a lot of excitement. Our simple goal is to create a listening experience that reflects the heart of the film and book. It is a rare privilege to be involved with a story that has now reached more than 18 million people worldwide. The music is contemporary and inspiring with a focus on the imminent return of Christ. I am very thankful to all of the artists and Cloud Ten Pictures for being so enthusiastic about this project."
The soundtrack will include Left Behind: The Theme Song, instrumental tracks from the movie, a multi-artist version of the classic song, "Midnight Cry," and select cuts from key artists inspired by the book and movie. A unique element to the project that will please fans of the book will be the linking of songs to key characters in the movie - Buck's Song, Rayford's Song, Chloe's Song. Artists included on the soundtrack are Michael W. Smith, Bob Carlisle, Bryan Duncan, Clay Crosse, Rebecca St. James, LaRue, SHINE mk, Jake and others.
The reported release schedule indicates the soundtrack will hit on October 3rd while the home video will release on Halloween (October 31st) in advance of the theatrical release of the film in February.
Cloud Ten's vision for the video and theatrical release is best explained by founder, Peter Lalonde. "Our unique strategy is to release the video to the core audience first, believing it will create a Gideon's army. With this army of consumers equipped with a powerful evangelical tool, the theatrical release has the potential to be one of the greatest successes in Christian film history."
The enhanced CD soundtrack will feature movie-related material while the music will feature artists including Michael W. Smith, Avalon, Plus One, Fred Hammond and others.
The movie, starring "Growing Pains" star Kirk Cameron and wife Chelsea Noble, is being produced by Cloud Ten Pictures. The filmmaker has previously utilized recognizable Hollywood stars as part of its trilogy of end-time Christian films - Apocalypse, Revelation and Tribulation.
Cameron, a born-again Christian, attests his belief in God "The most important thing in my whole life is honoring and loving God. I'm truly thankful and grateful to God. This movie is the biggest opportunity to get the Gospel message out there and I feel privileged to be a part of it."
Other actors in the film include Brad Johnson, Clarence Gilyard (Walker, Texas Ranger), Gordon Currie (Ripe) and Colin Fox (Daylight, with Sylvester Stallone), as well as Reunion recording artists Clay Crosse and Jake, Diadem's Records' Bob Carlisle, and Forefront Records' Rebecca St. James.
