Chapter 25
A.J. slammed the phone down. He had tried calling Kevin at his house, his cell, even the studio. He wasn’t home. He wasn’t answering his cell and the people at the studio hadn’t seen or heard from him. It was already nine thirty in the morning. Kevin hadn’t called anyone since last night. A.J., who hadn’t went to bed all night, decided to call Christin at the office. After all she did say she had to work today. He grabbed the phone book and looked up The Firm. He picked up his phone and dialed the phone number.
“Good Morning. The Firm. Mandy speaking. How may I help you?”
“Christin Casey’s office please.” A.J. asked sweetly.
“Please hold.”
A.J. was switched over to hold where music was being played. The song was ‘Larger Than Life.’ “Great, don’t I listen to myself enough” A.J. said to himself. The music stopped and ringing started.
“Christin Casey’s office. Keeli Rivers. How may I help you?”
“Yeah. Ms. Rivers I was wondering if I could talk to Ms. Casey please. It’s very important.” A.J. emphasized.
“You and me both. She’s not in though.” Keeli said sarcastically.
“Do you know when she will be in?”
“Well she went to a concert last night for a potential client and we received a phone call this morning downstairs saying that she was ill and she wouldn’t make it in this morning. So you go from there. Because your guess is as good as mine. But I will take a message if you would like to leave one.” Keeli offered.
“Naw. I think I can get a hold of her. Besides she wouldn’t get the message until Monday. But thanks anyways.” A.J. said disappointed. He slammed the receiver down. Damn. He thought to himself.
Later at Christin’s
Kevin was making a fresh pot of coffee at eleven twenty-five. Christin was still sleeping but Kevin seemed to have actually woken up early, which even surprised him, and had been awake for about two and a half hours. The coffee had just finished and Kevin was pouring himself a cup when Christin came stumbling out of her room. “Is that coffee I smell?” Christin asked as she sat on a stool at the counter.
“Yeah. Wanna cup?” Kev offered.
“Sure.” Christin accepted.
Kevin got a cup and poured Christin a cup. “Sugar?”
“Naw. Black is fine.”
Kevin handed Christin the coffee.
“Thanks.”
”Your welcome.”
”So what are your plans for today?” Christin asked taking a sip of her coffee.
“WE are going to get you moved into my place.”
“Oh yeah. That totally slipped my mind. I am not even thinking.”
“You forgot? You do remember all that packing we did last night? Suitcase of bag after suitcase.”
“Yeah. So what. I am tired. Do you remember that you are not going to tell anyone that I am staying with you for a day or two?” Christin asked.
“Yes I remember. You wanna drive my car or yours?”
“I’ll drive mine. It has tinted windows. If there is press or anything I won’t be easy to see.”
“Yeah. Wouldn’t want the press to tell on us. Would we?”
“Naw. But now I have to go get super-duper fly and change into some super-duper fly clothes. I’ll be right out though to help with the suitcases.” Christin took another sip of her coffee and hopped off of the stool.
When Christin walked out of her room she saw that her bags, which were in the living room, were gone and Kevin was in the kitchen drinking his coffee. “Damn. Pack much.” Kevin asked.
“Actually I didn’t pack much. I just like to shop.”
“I can see that.”
“If you would’ve waited I would’ve helped. I told you that.” Christin said.
“Naw. I had it.”
“Ok. Well when I finish this cup off coffee we can leave if you want. I just have to do one more thing though.” Christin walked towards her bedroom again. She got into the linen closet and grabbed the oldest sheets in there. She spread them out and began to cover things such as the furniture and such. She came into the kitchen last and covered the counters and cabinets. “Ok. All done.”
Five minutes later Christin was following behind Kevin on the road. Fortunately there was no one in front of Kevin’s house. Press or fans. Just to be safe though, Christin parked her car in the garage and they also unloaded Christin’s stuff from the garage. After they unloaded Christin’s stuff, Christin was in a room arranging her stuff. It didn’t take long because she was planning on leaving in a day or two. After she finished, she walked down the stairs to find Kevin. He was in the kitchen making some sandwiches for lunch. “Yumm. Peanut butter and jelly. Good choice.”
“Yeah. Simple but good.”
“So what have you got to do round here besides eat?”
“Well I got a basketball court, but I wont play you cause I ain’t gonna lose to you.” Christin laughed. “I got a game room, a pool, a studio…”
“Aw a studio. Can I go see? Please?”
”Yeah sure.” Kevin finished making the sandwiched and handed Christin one, then started walking towards the studio. The phone rang causing them to stop. “Hold up Chris let me get that.” Kevin jogged over to the phone and checked his caller ID. “Yo wassup bone.”
“Hey man. Where ya been?”
“A.J., where I been is not important. Why you wanna know?” Kev looked over at Christin.
“Cause I tried calling? Where were ya earlier? I called your house, cell, and the studio.”
“Oh I left my cell at home on charger and I wasn’t at the studio. I went to the store to get something. Sorry man.”
“Oh. No prob. Just curious. So what did Christin say about partying with us tonight? Did she say anything at all? Anything about anything or anyone?” A.J. questioned.
“Can you hold on I got a beep? Remember that question.”
”OK.”
Kevin covered the phone so A.J. wouldn’t hear him and Christin talking. “Are you partying with us tonight? Did you say anything about anyone or anything last night?”
“Why?”
“Cause A.J., your man, wants to.”
“My man? Hell no. If you’re nice I’ll party with ya. And what about saying something about anything or anyone?” Christin threw a pillow off the sofa at him.
Kevin dodged the pillow and uncovered the phone. “Okay. Man. Is Christin going to party with us? I think so she was pretty sure about it last night. She was really happy about the fact that you would be there.” Kevin smiled at Christin.
Christin picked up another pillow and threw it at him. He dodged again. He turned his back on her and she threw another pillow at him. He wasn’t able to dodge that one.
“Really? For real she was happy? Is that a good sign? Are you sure is was about partying with ME and not any one else?” A.J. could hardly believe.
“Well she was pretty sight about it but really sight about you.”
“So what time should I come over to your place? Oh yeah we decided to might at your place after you left.”
”Well that’s so nice.” Kevin remarked sarcastically. “But since it is done come over in about three hours. At 4:30.”
“Oh. Damn. Yo stupid ass cousin won’t stop calling Me.” A.J. hung up.
Kevin hung up the phone and look at Christin. “They are coming over at 4:30. Just park your car outside in the driveway and no one will no. And leave your stuff in your room.” Kevin saw the look of bewilderment on Christin’s face. “Well go move your car. Dang. Don’t just stand there like a bump on a log.” Kevin messed with her.
There was nothing more that Christin could really do so she went out and moved her car.
