Chapter 3

Just as Christin was approaching Alex, he saw her coming. He quickly hung up the phone saying got to go “my” bitchy boss is coming. Christin seeing this walk up to Alex and said, “Whom were you talking to?”

Alex quickly answered, “Wrong number.”

Christin sensing something up with Alex, didn’t question it and decided not to pry, but said, “Oh ok. So how is your first day? Good I hope but now I have a bunch of contracts that need to be copied and mail out to a lot of very important people. Ok. If you will follow me I will explain it.” Christin said a bubbly voice.

Alex got up and suddenly said, “Why the sudden attitude change? Not that I am complaining, I mean I like this attitude a lot better. But I am curious.”

Christin simply laughed then explained, “Earlier I was a bitch because I had a very important meeting I wasn’t prepared for and on top of that they were sending me a new employee, which I really didn’t have time for. You know, explain stuff, showing them around. By the way, I am sorry about acting that way earlier today. Being a bitch usually isn’t my style. I was stressed. Why I don’t know. I mean Travis, Tom, and Mark make my job easy.” She walked into her office and handed Alex the contracts that the guys had signed earlier and said, “They need to be mailed to all these people” she handed him another list. “Make one copy for everyone on the list. Go to the copy room down the hall. You will find everything you need there to make and mail the copies. When you finish that put the originals in the big black filing cabinet under Blink 182. Top drawer, by then it will be time for lunch. After you finish it will probably be 12:00. You first day is over. Oh, here are the keys to the filing cabinet. You have to have these.” She tossed him a pair of small keys and walked out of her office to find Amanda to invite her to lunch.

When she was gone Alex was smiling. “YES!” he whispered out loud. Then he thought, “Now I can find out if this is a good company or not for the other guys. Christin isn’t such a bad person. Maybe I should ask her out. Too bad she’ll be working here instead of Orlando. Wait. Hold up, you are here to do a job not meet women.” He quickly left Christin’s office to do his job. He made the copies in a hurry. He did find everything he needed to mail the contracts. After he placed them in the mail, he quickly grabbed the originals and went to the filing cabinet. While making copies he had read over one of the contracts. It was a well-written, very legal kind of contract. While filing them he quickly glanced over other contracts. They were all very legal and well written. He then filed the contracts, shut, and locked the cabinet. He figured he might stay around a few days but he had pretty much made up his mind. The Firm was a good company. They definitely would sign with them. He remembered Christin saying he could go to lunch after he finished. He glanced at his watch, 11:45. “Great,” he thought. “I’ll call the other guys and meet them for lunch.” He grabbed his cell while pressing the elevator button, which he had walked to after shutting the cabinet. After dialing three numbers and no answer at any of them, he decided to call the hotel they were staying at. “Hello, San Francisco Hotel. Melissa speaking. How may I help you?”

Alex couldn’t help but smiling at the thought of the cute blond sitting at the desk.

“Yes Melissa. Can you connect me to room 127?”

“Yes sir. Please hold.” Melissa said sounding like an operator.

“Hello. Who are you and what do you want?” grumbled a sleepy voice on the other end of the line.

Alex couldn’t hold back his laughter. He yelled in the phone, “Get your lazy ass out of bed!” Just then the elevator door open and stepped in and pressed the bottom floor. “You and the rest of the guys are meeting me for lunch in 15 minutes” The elevator door opened. He saw Christin and Amanda laughing. He couldn’t believe this was the same Christin who was such a bitch earlier. He couldn’t help but think about what a wonderful laugh she had. He was paying so much attention to Christin; he didn’t hear the voice on the other end of the phone.

“Hey man! You there?” Alex finally heard the other voice on the line.

“Yeah. What were you saying?” Alex asked while he walked out of the building and started towards his black rented Expedition.

“I was saying ‘where are we meeting?’”

“Oh we are going to meet at McDonalds” Alex said with a smile while he pulled out his keys, unlocked his car door and hopped in. He started the vehicle and sped away to find the closest McDonalds.

“McDonalds!?! Man what is up with you and McDonalds. Plus there has to be at least 20 Mickey D’s in Cisco. How are we supposed to know which one to meet at?"

Alex laughed as he spotted a Mickey D’s and then looked around for street signs. “ Oh that’s easy. We going meet at the one on Main and 11th. Anymore stupid questions, dumbass?”

“Shut-up. Okay. I’m going to go get the other guys. We’ll be there in 15-20 minutes. Bye” He hung up the phone without even giving Alex the chance to say goodbye.

“Yeah whatever.” Alex mumbled to himself and then hung up his phone and pulled into the parking lot of McDonalds.
