Chapter 44
It took AJ five minutes flat to get to his house. He parked in the driveway and jumped out of the
car. He raced up the sidewalk to his house. Upon entering the house, he heard the TV going in the
living room. He decided that before he made a complete ass out of himself, it would be best if he
took a few minutes to calm himself. Therefore he stood in the hall a few minutes thinking of how
to approach Lilia on this. He finally decided.
AJ walked into the livingroom calm and cool as if he knew nothing, and sat down on the couch
next to Lilia.
“Hey babe.” Lilia said glancing up at him, then returning her full attention back to the TV.
“Hey.” AJ replied. Seeing that the TV might get more of Lilias attention then him, he grabbed the
remote and flipped the TV off.
That got Lilias attention. “Hey I was watching that!” She protested.
“Well, I wanna talk to you about something important.” AJ said sweetly.
“Okay. Shoot.” Lilia said in a hurry to get back to the television.
“Exactly how far along are you?” AJ asked, trying not to portray any bitter emotions.
“One and a half months, maybe two. Why?” Lilia asked, getting skeptical.
AJ ignored her question and went on with his own. “And when is your due date?”
Lilia hesitated, then remarked. “February first.”
“Are you sure? I heard it was September thirtieth.” AJ continued to smile. “And if it is in
September, then that would make you five months along. Right?”
Lilia opened her mouth to speak, but couldn’t think of anything to say.
AJ continued to speak. “So five months ago, I didn’t know you. Therefore, the kid isn’t mine, is
it?”
Lilia decided she had had enough. “AJ, what is your problem?” she shouted.
“You.” AJ answered, still calm.
“Me? I think not. You know what I think your problem is?” Lilia retorted quickly.
“What?” AJ asked testily.
“Your new ‘manager’. ”
AJ looked at Lilia in shock. How could she know? Was it that obvious?
“Yes AJ. Whats her name? Don’t think I don’t know.”
AJ, now determined to play it off, asked, “What makes you even think I like her?” Then to make it
sound good he added, “She is totally into Kevin, and Kevin’s into her. Why would I go for
someone I don’t have a chance with?”
“I don’t know, but I saw the way you looked at her the night I told you I was pregnant. Plus, I
heard you talking to Kevin on the phone today. The way you flipped when you found out she was
staying with Kevin. It’s obvious you like her. She probably planted all these lies about me in your
head.” Lilia said.
When Lilia said that, AJ laid it to her. “You want the truth? Well here it is. Christin doesn’t even
know that I have a bitch of a girlfriend. True, if I hadn’t seen what a good person she is, them I
probably wouldn’t have seen what a bitch you really are. And if you wanna know where the truth
came from, talk to the people at your geino’s office. As for you, Lilia, I want you out of my
house. And I want you out now.” AJ pointed towards the door.
Lilia was so pissed at the moment that she ran up the stairs, threw alot of her stuff in a suitcase,
and ran back down the stairs and out of the house, only stopping to grab the keys to the car she
was renting.
Only after hearing Lilia’s car start up and pull away did AJ breath a sigh of relief. He knew he
hadn’t heard the last of her, but for now he felt free. He needed to celebrate. He looked doen at
his watch and read “7:07.” Picking up his phone, he dialed Christins cell-phone. After being
switched over to her voice-mail, AJ hung up. “She must be out. I’ll wait.” Thinking about Christin
made him think about the computer. Maybe she was on. Maybe she had written to him. He
quickly logged onto his computer and noticed that Christin was on. Just as he was going to send
her an AIM she logged off. “You’ve go mail.” his computer told him. AJ clicked the mailbox and
saw that he had a letter from Christin. He clicked the latter and read. Then he read it again and
again. At first he felt bad, then sad, then touched. He felt bad because he was putting too much
pressure on her, then sad because she was leaving, then touched because she didn’t even know
who she was talking to and yet she opened up to him. But the thought hit him again. “She’s
leaving.”
