Chapter 5
Since Christin had to get back to work and Amanda had to get to class, they ate lunch at a place called Mickey’s. It was a place where they could eat and talk at the same time.
“So Amanda, what time is your last class over again?” Christin asked as they sat down at a table with their food.
“4:30. Why?” Amanda asked with a bit of hesitation.
“Oh no reason except that me and you is gonna go out to dinner…”Christin said casually.
“And then what?”
“Then what, what?” Christin said as she smiled at a cute guy passing by. “Oh check him out.” She said trying to change the subject. Unfortunately it didn’t work.
“Oh he looks good but what are we doing after dinner?” Amanda asked again even though she knew she didn’t want to know.
“Oh. Why do you think we would do something after dinner?” Christin questioned.
“Because I know you.”
“Well after dinner at 7:00 we gonna go to The Club. Have a few drinks. Meet a few guys. Dance a few dances. You know?”
“No, I don’t know. You know how I hate The Club. I don’t feel comfortable there. I mean after I have a few drinks I’m not like you. I don’t have enough courage just to speak to any cute guy that walks by. You do that with or without a few drinks. You just dance nastier when you got a buzz. I don’t want to go, please dinner is enough.” Amanda explained in a hurry.
“No, you are going. I’m going to take you out of that little shell you put yourself in. It is time for you to get a ‘real’ social life.” Christin said in a matter of fact tone.
“I will go on one condition. I can leave when I want to. No ifs, ands, or buts about it.” Amanda said in a way that even Christin couldn’t say no to but she could add something else.
“Okay but you have to stay till 11:30 at least.”
“Okay. 11:31 I’m out the door. Deal.” Amanda said with a smile.
“Deal.” Christin said with the same smile.
“Oh god.” Amanda looked at her watch. “I gotta get to class.”
“Okay. I gotta get back too.” Christin said as she got up and watched Amanda get up and gather her books and purse.
“See ya later.” Amanda called out as she ran out of the restaurant.
“Yeah.” Christin got up, left a tip on the table and went to pay the bill.
The rest of the day went on uneventfully. Christin left work at 6:25. she was the last one to leave which wasn’t unusual. She got into her 2000 Porsche and drove as fast as she could to her and Amanda’s apartment. She found Amanda there getting ready.
“Hey girl. You know you need to hurry up if we are going to be there by 7:00.: Amanda said as she put her earrings on.
Christin went up stairs and took a quick shower. She quickly did her make-up then came the task of picking out something to wear. She finally decided on a leopard print shirt, a short black shirt with a longer one over it (that way she could wear that into the restaurant without looking like a slut), a black cover shirt and a pair of 2in leopard-print clogs to match the shirt. She left her hair straight. “Perfect she said to herself.” 6:58. “Good thing this place is only a 5 minutes away. We won’t be that late.” She thought to herself. “Amanda are you ready to go. We need to leave right now.” Christin yelled as she grabbed her cell, pager, keys and purse, stuffing her pager and cell into her purse. She walked out of her bedroom to the front door to find Amanda there ready and waiting for her.
“It’s seven. We need to leave. Oh I like to outfit. Where’d ya get it?” Amanda asked as she walked out the door and Christin sat the alarm.
Christin quickly walked out the apartment and shut the door. “Oh I got it at Belles at the mall. But I got the shoes out of a catalog. I put it together myself. I’m just so talented.” She laughed at herself.
“Yeah but at what we want say.” Amanda joked.
“Hey, don’t be jealous cause I can get a man and you can’t” Christin stuck her tongue out at Amanda. By that time they were at Christin’s Porsche and Amanda’s BMW, a present from Christin for her 21st birthday. “Which one?” Amanda asked.
“Oh definitely mine. That way I can drive.” Christin walked over to her car and hopped in. She leaned over and unlocked Amanda’s door and she got in.
When Amanda got in she said, “You know there are buttons to unlock doors.”
“Oh I know. I’m just not that high-tech. What can I say? I’m old fashion.” Christin laughed.
Amanda couldn’t help but laugh at the thought of Christin living without technology. “You? I don’t think so. You can’t go a day without getting on the internet. You listen to the radio everyday. Just think about using the mailbox to send stuff instead of e-mail or fax machines. Or living without your cell or pager. I give you an hour before you go crazy.”
